Ok, this is kind of hard to describe. I am looking for a version of one aircraft, that had the same designation, both being modified from different basic versions of that aircraft type, and neither was a factory build under that designation. One type was modified, flown as modified, then returned to its' orignal configuration, and the results of that modification incorporated into a later version of the aircraft family. The other was modified to specialize its' role and remained as such for the rest of its' days until retired.

You got it!

In fact, due to it's inherant instability (which included the torque of its giant rotary engine), the RFC gave up on the Camels once the war was over, in favor of the SE-5A's, which also had a better gun combination-which you are free to posit as a question if you wish.

See, watching "The Battle of Britain" paid off. lol  OK  here's an easy one.

This modern commercial liner boasts a wingspan of almost 200 feet, and a top wing surface area of 4628 square feet.  It's engines are some of the most powerful ever designed to date, with a minimum design spec of 74,000lbs of thrust each.  The engines were manufactured by 5 separate corporations.  The entire plane was designed using a new computerized system allowing over 10,000 design engineers and fabrication experts to simultaneously work on it from workstations around the world.  It's fuselage was made of a new alloy which is the strongest ever used on any commercial aircraft.  The first of this type first flew in 1994.  What is this aircraft?

Like I said, an easy one.
