Kits reissued
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, November 15, 2003 1:33 PM
G'day
Does anyone know how and why some kits get to be reissued by a particular manufacturer after they become no longer available from the original one? A couple of 1/48 aircraft subjects I've been looking for for awhile have gone off the market and it seems like I have to wait for either a reissue or a whole new kit of each subject is brought out by someone else.I mean,if you are the only guy who makes a really decent kit of a particular subject and nobody elses comes close to your kits quality, etc, then why stop making it ? Just wondered.

It's a matter of economics. Sometimes it makes sense to sell you old molds and develop new ones, sometimes you just go bust and have to sell the family jewels.

This is something I have often wondered....I asked my LHS owner hes worked for a few of the larger companies....He told me they have various reasons....but the one most common Im finding out is.....alot of manufacturers especially the smaller ones will drop a kit to re-tool the mold.....or if demand drops off for the kit they'll stash the molds and bring them back out later....for whatever reason I wish theyd quit LOL
