I should be able to post some soon.
There are six rooms in the house: two bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. Everything but the kitchen and bathroom is paneled, and God is it ugly! There's a slate roof and a full basement.
Since settlement, we've contracted with somebody to make repairs on the roof (they're half done), and another person to install a steel door for the basement (to the outside) and put down a new kitchen floor. The door's installed, and the new floor in the kitchen will be installed this week. In the meantime, we're hoping to finish painting the kitchen this week.
We've ripped out the paneling in the master bedroom and found something interesting. Under the paneling was some sort of cardboard wallboard, and under that was nothing but studs and exterior wall. The exterior wall is made of wood siding scavenged from railroad box cars -- we could still see the stenciled-on numbers! We have vinyl siding, so the exterior wall is longer exposed directly to the elements. The studs, which measure a true 4" x 3" look like they're actually the cross pieces from telephone poles. We have some photos documenting this.
Our plan is to eventually put drywall up on all the interior walls, but that's going to take a while.
There's a neat little enclosed balcony off the master bedroom. I think I'm going to make that my hobby room as soon as I can get it insulated and heated somehow.
