Okay, so I'm sitting at my model desk with the TV on Sci-Fi halfway watching the program while shaking a bottle of enamel flat yellow prior to going to the paint room when I smell paint. I think "that's odd, I shouldn't be smelling paint, unless...... the lid is loose!"

Oops...

That brings back fond memories of various mishaps at my own workbench, usually involving very bright colors like yours. There was that beautiful green color for the NG Romulan Warbird... all over the place...

Reminds me of the time I loaded the paint brush with too much paint. I had the model part in my left hand and decided it would be a good idea to put the paint brush in my mouth while fishing a paper towel off the roll. I realized my mistake when the paint ran down the handle and into my startled mouth, Mmmmmm yum!Grumpy [|(]

I thought I was the only one who ever did that. Model Master Metalizer Aluminum all over the desk, my hand, the new shirt the wife bought me. Boy was I in trouble.

I feel more sorry for your carpet than your hand. After all, you can just "sand" the paint off your hand...yeesh

By the way, what TV show was it? It must've been very exciting.

I was paint-detailing a model at one time with an ice-cold glass of coke beside me. Of course, there is also a glass of water where I dip my brushes in between color changes.
Unknowingly I dipped the brush in the coke glass.

Well acry-coke didn't taste that bad afterall.

LOL.

I have more shirts and pants with paint and glue spots on them. About two months ago I was trying to remove a lid off a full bottle of paint. It was stuck so bad I had to use two pairs pliers to get it off. One for the lid the other for the bottle. Well the lid stayed on but I managed to crush the bottle. Silver paint all down the legs of new pants my wife had just bought me.
Lotts of thinner and a quick wash. She still thinks thay came with silver specs....

I used to screw up shirts. I got an BBQ apron and put it on whenever I plan to use my airbrush or clean my airbrush. Has saved me many a time!

I kearned long ago to have a nice, neat, comfortable set of junk clothes for those model binges. Scrubs fit the bill nicely. That is, until my best friend got drunk and puked all over them. That's another story.

Some mutant shark movie with Craig T. Nelson in it. Right at a scene where a diver got munched. I was wearing a brand new pair of jeans at the time and amazingly enough only got my hand painted. Nothing on the cloths, the four models under construction or the carpeting. Sometimes you just get lucky. Last week while putting some black lacquer primer on a wing I airbrushed my thumb nail. Next day at work one of the guys commented on how I must have shut my thumb in the door. Hmmm, how do I explain this?Whistling [:-^]

Man, I thought I was the only one with klutz tendencies! Same thing happened to me with gloss red. Was getting ready to paint gear door edges on a 1/32 Tamiya F-14. Paint went all over the table, wall, carpet, clothes--it was disgusting. Never did get it all out. Had to repaint the walls, replace the carpet, etc.

Like Demon 69, I'm an advocate of the old clothes approach, but have not yet managed to spill any paint!!!!!!

Doesn't that just confirm that paint is onlt attracted to new clothes?

However I did pick up the matt white, instead of the matt clear by mistake and promptly gave a Fw190 a winter camo scheme!!!!

D'oh!

I loaded up the paint cup with gloss red and was just getting ready to paint when I heard the door bell ring. I was the only one at home so I proped up the airbrush on my desk ( I should have put it on the holder), and answered the door. When I returned to the model room the airbrush had tipped over and I had a round circle of red paint on the dark gray carpet. It goes good with the black, olive drab and white circles I already had on the carpet.

I was shaking a bottle of Alclad II and watching tv at the same time. The little bb was just rattling around the bottle making a racket when all of a sudden I felt wet all down the front of me. I guess I was shaking to hard, or I just don't know my own strengthTongue [:P], but the bb had busted a hole in the bottle and launched silver paint all over my stomach, the wooden bookshelf, the model table and the wall.

It came off of the wall and me pretty easy but the bookshelf still has a light silver blotch.

I dumped a new bottle of green zinc chromate once like 4 yrs ago. I always have trouble getting the lid off. I coundn't get the clear flat or clear gloss open(MMAcryl) The one thing I miss about the dorm I don't have guys handy to open stubborn madels anymore. I once asked a guy to open it and he couldn't. His girlfriend and younger sister were both there watching (they lived on the same floor) and one of them opened it!! Poor guy, lolololol. My roommate at the dorm used to open a lot of jars( I lost most of the grip strength in one hand when the dog (185lbs Wolfhound) jumped and slammed it in the car door at the wrist) She always got more paint on her hands then I did.

How about this one. Daughter, 3 years old, found a bottle of silver enamel and got into it. I come along to paint a Neiport 17 and start shaking it. All of a sudden it notice paint dripping on the floor. The lid was on but not very tight. I go and ask her about it and she says she did not get into it. I then notice silver paint on an end table and molding to a door. Then I notice she is clenching her fist. I ask to open it and sure enough, silver paint all over her hands. I was just glad she did not put it in her mouth.

I feel very lucky I can't remember a time while modeling that I've had a huge disaster. Now there was the time I was getting ready to paint my 1:1 scale jeep and I was shaking a gallon can of OD paint, while talking to someone, and the lid came loose. Neadless to say the jeep didn't get painted that night, but I did.[:0]

The worst thing that happened to me was when I accidentally spilled a few drops of superglue on my benchtop. A few moments later, I just happened to rest my airbrush on that spot and................you can guess the rest. Took about 30 minutes to detach it from the table. Oh, did I mention that the brush was pressurized when I tried to pick it up? My spray booth has a distinctive silhouette of my forearm outlined in bright red on the left side.

Spilled paint is bad enough on models (i can usually salvage them) and on the floor or rug (the longest my wife stayed pi-ah unhappy was a week). But to me the biggest tragedies I've suffered is when I have the parts sprue or a partially completed model on the work bench and then knock over a full bottle of liquid glue - usually don't salvage too much out of that even for spare parts. Somehow when cleaning my airbrush, I managed to spill several (large) drops of Model Master Chrome Yellow on the (new) vinyl kitchen floor. My life flashed before my eyes, but I managed to get it all cleaned up (without a trace!) before the wife came home. She still doesn't know about it.Big Smile [:D]

Bloody hell - all these stories bring up memories - bad ones!
One of my worst ones was having a large-ish amount of polyurethane resin to mix, and fixing up a mixing paddle on a small electric motor - does anyone wanna guess how all this ended?
Resin really doesn't come out of ANYTHING.

Lee Tree;
Must be an Aussie thing only mine was large-ish amount of fluorescent red. Guess who ended up painting the walls in his modelling room instead of modelling for two weeks.

I superglued my jeans to my leg once. Didn't lose too much skin,.... that time!

The worst thing that has happened is when I spilled a bottle of light gray primer on dark brown carpeting. Since I was renting, I had to remove it, but had no luck. So about a week before I moved, I decided to mix some brown paint to match the carpet and airbrushed the spot. Couldn't even tell!

Hey Mojo, I wish I had heard that before transferring from my last rectory. I spray painted my hand bright red in the morning, the other hand splashed blue that afternoon and had dinner with the Bishop that evening. Needless to say, he noticed and i thought to come up with something clever but told the real story and that's when I found out that the Bishop was a model builder as well.Big Smile [:D]Wow!! Matching the color of your skin might be a bit more difficult than carpet! It's a good thing that you decided to tell the truth, he would have seen right through it. ;-)
