Beg forgiveness, not permission.

"Anyone konw where I can fine thus and such?"

Wise words, here.

And thanks to Matthew for his voice of reason.

Cheers, David

Again, its a dumb idea to go looking to BUY on a forum, though, if your after something... why not put a thread... "Anyone know where I can get X,Y, and Z?"   People do it all the time, and its within the rules.  And if someone has it, just sendem a pm

We've considered this kind of area on the forum, but I don't think you're going to see it anytime soon.

As I've mentioned before, FSM and Kalmbach have a very strict policy when it comes to advertising.
If one of our advertisers fails to meet your expectations and deliver what they promised, let our customer service department know. Our readers are the most important thing to us, and if someone who's advertising in our magazine isn't treating your failrly, let us know and we'll step in on your behalf. We'll make sure the situation gets resolved. Advertisers who don't deliver aren't allowed to advertise anymore. If they're in FSM you can believe they're an up-and-up company, and if it turns out they're not, we'll kick 'em out.

Policing a buy/sell/trade section of the forum would just be too complicated given our smallish staff, and as others have mentioned, there are plenty of other forums where you can do this kind of bartering.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Since this is a sponsor paid forum, they don't want that sort of thing stealing business from the money folks. Not a bad notion, if youre one of the money folks. And we all benefit.

By the same token, it would benefit them to get off their high horse. Other sites allow trading among members and they are funded the same way. A few old models and half-starts traded around keeps the members on the site and active - and that's when advertsing pays off. After all, you can't advertise to people who are absent.

Seems there is room for compromise, doesnt there? Apparently, others know it too, since I see suggestions in this very thread to go elsewhere, if you're inclined. Youre even directed to the place. Or just be "informal" about it, among friends, etc.

So how are these money folks being served by their strict policy when that happens? What value do they derive?

That is always the problem with unyielding policy - it's prideful wielders eventually cut themselves off by employing it.

Personally, it's okay with me.

You could always just as us here, if you know anywhere online to purchase the item you are after.  I have done that before trying to find WWI tanks, worked wonderfully.

No. On the other hand, if you become an active member (poster) and get into a group of like minded individuals, that kind of stuff becomes easier in an informal way.

5. Advertisements. If you would like to advertise a product that your commercial company manufactures, or if you are an individual private seller, you can buy a classified ad in the magazine or an ad on the Web site. This includes all buying, selling, and trading. Any posts that appear to be an advertisement or transaction will be deleted.

Here's the link to the forum rules..
