My worst fears involve something happening to my family. Second are what happens to me after I take care of those responsible for what happened to my family. I used to be uncomfortable being spontaneously required to speak to medium to large groups without any notice or preparation, but that's been happening so often that I don't even think about it any more.

Oh, man, do I remember those... I lived in a trailer park outside Ft. Benning years ago and the pay phone outside the manager's office was inundated with them at night; I was constantly in fear of being picked up and carried off by them...

Oh, yeah... and spiders of ANY size (so much for the macho thing)... Here in VT we have barn spiders, on some, the size of the body alone are those of silver dollars; Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across a web from one (and he was still home) when I opened the back door to my apartment...

Other than something happening to my wife and kids, would have to be another intoxicated, uninsured idiot finding my car the hard way again. Mainly because with that comes dealings with heatlh insurance& car insurance adjusters ( not directing that at anybody but the ones I happen to be dealing with).

My worst fear is something happpening to my wife or son. I know I could'nt handle that.
On a lighter note, I've had some scary stuff happen to me and I have to say it's put the fear of god into me at the time but made me a stronger person afterwards.
Never had a fear of flying until my first emergency landing-I seriously thought my no. was up! It left me spooked for a while and then I chilled out, relaxed and found myself on a 737 leaking fuel over Belgium a year later! Needless to say, I'm still here and we landed safely, thanks to a great pilot. It was a close run thing though. The best bit was my wife was with me and when I told her "Don't worry-I've done one of these before." She thought I had completely lost my marbles!
Another thing that bothers me is guns-I don't like them being pointed at me. I've been detained in various airports around the world at gunpoint, the worst experience being Nairobi airport. I local cop pointed a ready to fire AK-47 at my head because I was smoking outside the terminal building! Mind you, I managed to calm him down, so I guess these things can improve my communication skills! Also an important health lesson here too-smoking can get you killed!Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Prety much anything medical , needles , surgery etc , i just go nuts even thinking about it. hell i can't even watch any of the the medical shows they have on tv sometimes. its not the blood either , i saw plenty of gory stuff and it doesn't bother me at all but the sight of seeing a scalpel cut someone up (never happened to me thankfully) *shudder*

Palmetto Bugs...roaches what ever they are prolific!

On a more serious note though, some of my biggest fears besides an angry wife! LOL

Something happening to her or Heather! Something happening to me leaving me disabled...just in general being a failure...wish I could be more specific on the last one...it would require lots of booze and some long hours on a couch in some office.....

Living in urban America I would say the greatest fear is getting hit by a stray drive-by shooting bullet which is fairly common these days.

If I'm out in the woods hiking, I'd be afraid of accidentally coming between a Mama bear and her cubs.

Swimming. It is staying alive in water. I swallow CO2 cartridges when I take a shower. With my wife dragging me snorkleing and jet skiing in the ocean, I wonder if she is after the insurance.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Here in Northern California we have what I have heard called, "Japanese Beetles" that are huge and fly!
I don't think they really are Japanese Beetles because from what I could find on the web they are only 3/8" long. These ones I am talking about are at least an inch or more if I remember correctly.
They are not in my immediate area but I have seen them at Lake Shasta which is about 4 hours north.
How do they differ from the Palmetto bugs you mentioned?

Needles! Woe to the nurse who doesn't heed my warning. I don't understand the why of it but when someone attempts to give me a shot, my fight or fight instincts take over. I'm only along for the ride at that point. I'm really more scared that I might hurt someone.

For me it's heights, and maybe the occasional spider.

Interestingly, I heard that statistically, speaking in public is the second highest fear after fear of death. And then there are those people I know who would rather die than speak in public.

Got used to them at a young age, though, so I can't say I fear them.

So what do I fear...you guys mean like little, irrational phobias, right?
Hmmm...I studied to be a biologist (specialized in entomology and herpetolgy), so I'm not afraid of any harmless animals...
