Modeling Resolutions
Posted by cassibill on Monday, December 1, 2003 2:47 PM
I know its early in the season to do this but every one does this We make a goal for a model and then don't do it. My current main project turned four this week. It would set on a 4x6 index card and I keep putting it off. Here's my proposal:
We keep after one another and actually do it. We put one or however many up and then report back periodically on them. Maybe as a group those excuses like "I can't find..." and whatnot will disappear.
Here's mine: I will finish my 54mm Vietnam Dog Handler dio.
I'm even itemizing a checklist
BASE
Get a placard
Dust cover(forgot)
DOG
Finish collar and leash
Dullcote
HANDELER
Finish painting uniform
Attach hand
Paint arms
Make webgear straps
Paint grenades
Attach head
MISC.
Make sling for M16
Arrange everything

Since I started this I'd best come though.
That is all done by 1-1-05 at the latest.

That's quite an itemized list. My goal in no particular order, because it could change day to day, is meet the goal of Feb.1 for the Panther group build.

My goal right now is to actually build a model! I have been on a toddler-enforced break from the hobby for quite some time and it is time to get back into it.

I think I'll start with something small like my Revell 1/72 M2A2 Bradley. Should be a fun little reintroduction to modeling.

Eric-yeah It's itemized a little too much but if you do that from the begining seeing all the stuff crossed off is nice. How is that panther G going?
Mark- There's a lot of detailing options for the Bradley. I like 1/72 armor. I've got the Airfix Buffalo and the Academy Ground vehicle set. one of these days I'll get to them. Model Expo has onsale like 5 1/72 armor kits I'm eyeing: a Sherman, a Churchill, a Tiger, an AMX 30/105, and a Somua-$2.68 a piece! Build what have, build what have,....
I only have 16 kits startedBig Smile [:D]

To finish the following before the new year starts:

Challenger II
M1A2
Leopard 2 A5
Hulk Dio

I'll put the others aside for a while and concentrate on the above-mentioned items.

Im not sure if this fits in here, but my resolution is to "NOT" buy any kits for myself next year, "at all". (Not inlcuding detail sets and such) Im doing this because , I have sooo many unbuilt kits that I keep saying "Im gonna start on that one next...." and I never do. I just hope nobody comes out with something really unique and irresistable, cause I dont wanna cave ! Confused [%-)]

My resolution:

Buying fewer Kits and building more. Need to reduce the stockpile before the upcoming move to keep costs low.

The only resolution I have is to enjoy every build and try to get out to meet more of the modelling community out there.

Hey, is that Vietnam Dog Handler dio done yet? I'm checking back tomorrow if it's not. Wink [;)]

My goal is to assemble an army and conquer the world. Smile [:)]

Well, maybe the conquer the world part will have to be put off for the next year, but I'm serious about the army. My goal is to complete my Lizardmen Army (Warhammer Fantasy) by the end of 2004. It's by no means a small feat. I have over 180 figures (Skinks and Saurus), a Slann Mage priest, a Stegadon and Tichi Huichi's Raiders. I have figures at different stages of completion but I need to dig in and complete them all. For anyone wondering what these are, you can see pictures of the different Lizardmen miniatures on the GW site.

Hey David, My goal is very similar: to finish my Dwarf and Khemri fantasy armies and my space marine and Imperial guard 40K armies. More specifically, I need to finish my Tallarn Desert Rough Riders in time for Golden Demon in June as well as my mobile "stage" of Noise Marines built on a Land Raider. REAL heavy Metal

Sweet!! Have you entered the competition in the past? Personally, I've never been to one, but seen the pictures in White Dwarf and on the GW site. Very impressive stuff!

My goal is to finish this Academy M10 that's going into a dio of Audie Murphy's Medal of Honor feat. The M10 for the most part is done. I just need to paint the .50cal, add accessories, and finish weathering.
Then the base which is a whole other project all together. I'm hopping to have the M10 complete by the end Feb. Then I'll start on the base.

Courtney, are you one of those people who has a real short attention span? Do you have to list everything you do to that detail or do you just have a bad memory like me?? Wink [;)] Big Smile [:D]

We'll keep after you if you like and have you post a progress report once a week. That way we can give you a spankin an extra assignment if you fall behind. Mischief [:-,] Wink [;)] Big Smile [:D]

I would like to finally scratchbuild a firetruck. I'd even be happy just to build one of the ones out of the box.

My goal, which I achieved this year, is to build one model a month and then to also build the equivalent number I purchase on top of the one per month. This way I should always see my unbuilt stock declining. So this year (so far) I've bought 4 kits and am just about to complete my 14th so I'm only 2 behind.

I'll never resolve not to buy any more models! Sure, I'm probably getting ahead of myself in the kits bought/kits built ratio, but heck, that's half the fun for me!

I will resolve to post less and build more. though!

I'd like to get my 1:72 Hasegawa F-104G (started late summer) and 1:24 Fujimi Renault Coupe (started last summer!) finished by the end of the year.
I've now also got a 1:35 75mm pak40 and crew, and 1:72 Merkava in the construction phase.

If I were to have a resolution, it would be "to be always doing something" Big Smile [:D]

Dwight- Which of the four do you think you'll finish first? Is the Hulk based on the old show, movie, or the comic book directly?
Chris-lots of work yet to do+Learning to draw the line (a ruler helps)
ATTN no one mention anything good to Monsterarmor and if he does get wind of something good we have to buy them all up to save him!
So MadMF is it really gonna be easier to move fragile models or unbuilt kits? I'd think the kits would be easier unless you don't keep all the built models(gifts, museum, an ordered one for someone).
Nicely said Keyworth.
No It's not done,Dave, but I did cut the pieces for the collar and washed them. They should be dry for tonight. Hey I have dibs on this planet. Find one for yourself. You and Paul need to get busy. Raising an army is no easy thing. Several is a real challenge.
What'd you do now tigerman? I'll have to check that thread.
SWEET! Trevor, did you mix and match parts for Murphy or does some company make a kit? Good luck on the Sherman but Murphy will be waiting..
Cute, Eric. No don't take that as a complement. Yes on the short attention span. No on the bad memory(I've memorized over 700 episode titles for Star Trek in order along with a short abstact of each.) You should see my planner-a list of every meeting assignment and chore, Weds. includes the Episode title of Enterprise and all the big tasks are itemized. I'll check in on Mondays.
What scale and make of firetruck, lizard ChrisBig Smile [:D]?
This year you'll start the leopard and next year you'll finish it. right? 3ggs

Courtney,
Yeah I know its a large goal....but one I have set so we'll see I should have been a lil more precise though. A week of construction time...Im going to prep and prime the parts prior to that...Might not be achievable but hey cant hurt to try...Im not adding any after market or detail sets to this build since this is my 1st F1 car....
As far as sleep deprivation ROFL I havent gotten more that 6 hrs of sleep since I was 16! I generally average 4hrs every 24 hr period...not sure whats wrong with me...Diane is urging me to see a doctor and has been for a while....I told her not to hold her breath! Im sure its bound to catch up with me at some point...but the way I see it I'll get enough sleep when its time for my dirt nap!Wink [;)]

- work on my 1/24 scale tuner style honda civic
- finish my 1/35 scale BRDM-2
- more scenery & structures for n-scale shelf layout

I have one more resolution I would like to add that is both modeling and life related...
I need to learn how to say "Thats as good as it gets....or Thats good enough for me!" Instead of ditching projects because they didnt turn out the way I wanted or perfect!

Courtney:
Don't mind those other guys, I use a check list too.
My goal; get all 178 remaining shell plates on my corvette hull by winter's end.
Oh yeah, start the next hull, and get the Halifax parts separated from the vac-form sheets.
...Baby steps, works for me ...

Bruce

Not buy kits.....shudder!!! Seriously, though, this coming new year I will...
1. Ask more questions from the guys at the club; how do they do this or that.
2. Build more...hopefully so much so that I will forget I smoke and finally be able to break the habit!!!!
3. Get more skills and use them.
4. Build a shelving unit in the library/game room to hold the stuff I will be building.
5. Tell my spouse I love her because she puts up with this nonsense!!
