Update to Online Hobby Stores
Posted by Centurion on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 1:04 AM

I know this question has been asked before and I read through a lot of threads on this subject, but most of them seemed outdated.

The other part to this is finding an online store that carries Polly Scale paints. I know Testors has them. I've searched on Great Models and found them, but the reviews for Great Models weren't that great. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of places that carry that paint.

In general the online stores seem pretty poor and the quality of service and product seems below par. I just wonder where people are shopping in 2009? Especially when most of the sites look like they haven't been updated in years or they look like they belong back in the 90s.

Thanks

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Sprue Brothers is the best I've ever dealt with. The only online retailer with up-to-the-minute real-time inventory...you know what they actually have. No doubts, if you order it...you'll get it. No half filled orders...no backorders listed on your packing list.

They also provide a nice notification feature when something is out of stock...Notify Me...you get an email notification immediately after it is restocked...from that email you can click the link if you are still interested in ordering the item.

I checked out Squadron, but when you do a search for Polly Scale it doesn't show up. The same goes for Sprue Bros. It's really hard to find places that carry Polly Scale.

Think out of the box, most train modeling companies carry Polly Scale. http://www.traintekllc.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=FLOQUILPOLLYS

Thanks for the link Rob. Unfortunately, I don't think they carry military colors. For example, Navy Blue and Interm Blue.

This is one of the best places out there: low prices, fast shipping, great customer service...

They have your paints, too:

Thanks Alex, this place looks pretty good. And your right, they have a lot of the PS paints although none of the clear coats.

I'm sorry Thad, I must be blind. I just don't see Polly Scale paints on the Squadron site. I did a search for Testors and still no luck.

Has anyone used Tower Hobbies before? I used their search feature and found a lot of Polly Scale paints, even the clear coats. I just want to make sure they are ok to do business with. Thanks again, you guys have been great with all your help.

I've used Tower for some expensive RC and regular Tamiya kits without any issues.

I use Sprue Bros, Squadron, Internet Hobbies, and Tower Hobbies. In that order.

I have not had any negative experiences with any of them. Since my LHS closed a few years ago, I use the Online stores exclusively.

I just wanted to let everyone know about my experience with Tower Hobbies for future reference. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied. I placed my order late Wednesday night, they received my order the next day on Thursday and processed it, and then shipped it on Friday. I received the package today on Monday via UPS. Shipping was a flat rate of $4.99 for paint. To me that is quick service and they had all the Polly Scale paint I needed.

To put it into perspective, I called my LHS on the Last Monday and they said they wouldn't have the order until Thursday of the next week. And, they didn't even have all the paints in stock through their ordering place. That was 10 days for shipping and a half order through LHS and 5 days for Tower Hobbies. I probably saved money because I didn't have to drive! Let's hope they keep up the good work.
