Hi guys!

Does anyone keep their models in an insulated garage? I'll spare you the long story but suffice it to say that I might be able to wall off a section of my insulated garage for my "man cave". Like I said, it's insulated but neither heated in the winter nor cooled in the summer. However, it is mild inside during the winter and reasonably cool in the summer. I was thinking that perhaps I could have some custom shelves built in this potential man cave to properly display my finished airplanes. But if the changing seasonal temps and humidity are not good then I'll seek another option.

A friend keeps his built models in his uninsulated garage year round. It doesn't bother them. He keeps them on a shelf packed away inside appropriately sized boxes. You shouldn't have any problems...just keep them away from extreme heat.

My uncle has his entire collection as well as his work bench in an uninsulated garage. When he wants to work out there in the winter he just kicks on a breaker about a half hour before he goes out. In the summer he just opens the door. All his completed builds are doing just fine.

Thanks for the info guys! I'd be sure to definitely apply a clear top coat (as opposed to now where I only do that for maybe 50% of my models). I thought for sure that the humidity level in a garage, whether insulated or not, would wreak havoc on decals. I figure if I have the guy build me some nice display shelves, I'll either have them behind glass or at least in enclosed cases.

I keep all mine out in the shop here in Texas for years and it will get up to 110 in the summer and down in the 20's in the winter and I have never had a problem.

That is amazing especially for such weather extremes! I live up in Green Bay, WI. We certainly never see 110 degree temps in the summer but we do see our fair share of over 90 degree temps during the summer. In the winter we also get down to the very low negative teens if not colder. I always pictured if my planes got that cold and I bumped into one, it would shatter in a bazillion little pieces. But if your models can take some Texas-sized weather conditions, then that's good enough for me. I'm convinced mine should be A-okay.
