Just like those guys on the street who sell Rolex watches for $49.95. Cheap copies, illegal and unlicensed.

Ok I understand about them being illegal but I've never seen any of the models offered there for sale here? Do you have any idea where the get the copy molds?

I would love to be able to get some of the models they offer over here in the good old US of A!

Can you give specifics of the kits in question? Some of us may be able to direct you.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

The same way you would reverse engineer anything...take it apart and make copies/molds from the parts or the assemblies. They may also have stolen or acquired the original molds without the consent of the real owners. That is part of the problem with having your property out of ones physical control. You don't offer a product that you are producing illegally within the borders of the owner...it could lead to jail time when caught.

When I worked for Husqvarna, we discovered a vendor from South America who was selling an exact copy of one of our saws at the expo in Lousiville. He and his booth suddenly disappeared in the blink of an eye.  They had literally taken a saw apart and copied everything to the T. They were even stupid enough to use the same color as ours!!

For figures they are a plague on the hobby.

Once they start selling copies the producer usually stops, or the copies are of limited runs no longer in production.

Most of the stuff you have never seen before is because they where originally made in limited runs probably a number of years ago.

Most recasts come from Thailand but there are some in the US and UK as well as South America.

If you spend any time on figure forums you see a lot of it.

They think that since most of the "Garage Kit's" are not licensed they have the right to copy them as they please.

The Thai and Chinese copy EVERYTHING. licensed or not.

One of the worst US recasters even has some of his copies shipped from SE Asia.

Frontier Hobbies in the UK's main inventory is recasts.
