Train Models
Posted by Ditch on Sunday, July 19, 2009 2:57 PM

Does anyone know where to buy decent plastic train models? (To build...not to be confused with pre-assembled model train sets.)

Thanks...

RevellAG made several in 1/87 scale (3 steam loco's if I remember). Several companies have made  trains in 1/35 - DML, CMK, Trumpeter.  In 1/72-76 CMK, SMA, and MIG have done some in resin, not sure if there are any plastic ones.  Also Military Wheels did a cable car in 1/72.  Might be others, just getting old and can't remember them.

Are you asking about functional rolling stock/motive power from kits or static models?

Hi There,

Been out of town, so thanks all for the feedback. Ed, I'm looking for static models. I said plastic, but resin is fine as well. Just a fan of older iron locomotives, and haven't seen much out there compared to planes, ships, tanks, etc. Despite the fact that trains played such a major role in WW2.

Airfix has made some (non-military) in the past and I hear that they weren't too bad, considering they are Airfix. You can find usually them on e-bay.
