Local Model Clubs
Posted by cuchulainn on Sunday, October 4, 2009 11:00 AM
How many forum members belong to IPMS and/ or a local model club? I belong to Southern Maine Scale Modelers and IPMS. I also have the honor of serving as the club newsletter editor. Our club members model in every genre of models and we meet once a month.

I'm a member of two  IPMS-Steve Wittman (Oshkosh, WI) and IPMS-R I Bong (Milwaukee, WI)! Yeah, I drive that 100 plus miles to attend the RI Bong meeting...just as there are those who drive considerable distances to attend Steve Wittman meetings...they're worth it.

Urbanlamb and I belong to IPMS Ottawa (Canada). We meet the first Wednesday of each month. I started back in 2001, took a few years off and rejoined them last year along with my lady. She is also a member of IPMS Canada, and I will be signing up as well this month.

I don't belong to any modeling clubs.Boohoo [BH] There is an AMPS club that meets in Wheaton, Illinois. But that's an almost 3-4 hour drive with traffic, considering that I would be driving their straight after my classes end at the university. Thus that just isn't 'local' enough for me nor does it work with my schedule.

As many IPMS Chapters as there are in Chicago there isn't one close to you? What hobby shops do you visit, typically there might be a meeting held there...if not start your own club.

President (they tell me it's a life sentence) of Wings & Wheels Modelers (based in the Springfield MA area)  for 20 years now and a member of IPMS/USA. I was a long time member of a now pretty much defunct club out of Worcester MA in the 80's.

Since I'm in the military, I've moved quite often and have joined a number of local and national clubs. I currently belong to an AMPS/IPMS affliated club called the Military Modelers Club of Louisville.

I have belonged to an AMPS and IPMS club in Richmond, VA and before moving to KY, I belonged to the IPMS Patriot Chapter in Bedford, Mass. and to Nordland AMPS in Norwell, Mass.

Boy, does that bring back memories! I first became a member of SMSM when they used to meet at the hobby shop up in Brunswick. Did two one year terms as president (alternating with Carl Thurston). I really do miss that club. I'm in Clarksville, TN now, just a short drive to Ft Campbell, KY and about 45 mins north of Nashville.
Nothing like seeing "two palm trees humpin' a garbage can"!! That's what we called the heavy lift guys when I was on an EH-60 at Fort Carson back in '91.
I'll never look at garbage cans the same again.

Nah, not any in my local vicinty(the south-western Chicagoland area.) Most are located out in the far suburbs up North and way to the west. As for my LHS, it's Ed's Hobby Warehouse, but long story short no meetings of any sort are held there.
