Does the new look forum make you lazy?
Posted by Konigwolf13 on Sunday, January 3, 2010 7:13 PM

On the old style I use to check out lots of areas by opening up a whole lot of tabs for each area eg armor, aircraft, helicopters. GB's, General etc. Now I'm just finding myself looking at my discussions and the basic page with recent posts. Its made me lazy after going into the sections a couple of days I noticed some interesting posts I'd missed, grrr. Serve me right for being lazy :(

Just the opposite. I am not that computer literate. I always say that the book Computers for Dummies is way over my head. I find myself spending lots and lots of time trying to find my way in and out of a particular post or thread. I bounce around so much that when I check the time, I find I haven't seen 1/3 of what I wanted to.  The old look was very, very easy for me to work with. I've looked at what everyone has said about the new look. For some it is easy. For me it is hard. But I'm still trying. So if anything, it's made me work harder to see what I want to see without it taking all night and keeping me away from the workbench.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

Yes, it does make me lazy. I tend to just pop open the Armor forum, if I don't see a post subject title there that catches my eye, I go back to the main forum page and click on the General and Odds & Ends (with the same caveat that I only click on a thread that the title catches my eye).

The way the old forum was, if a subject caught my eye from the main discussion menu, I would often click on it from a forum I seldom visited, Now, I bascially hit the three I listed above, might spend a few seconds glancing at titles and then I'm gone.

Since I use the "View All Forums" as my default page, I see every post made. I don't READ them all, but I have the opportunity to do so if I had the time. I've made some tutorials to assist others in learning the ropes of the new forum, so I certainly haven't been lazy! I can see how someone could fall into a trap of viewing only one forum, and miss out on some excellent builds in the other genres. I poke my nose into all the different areas, even ones I don't personally build. One never knows where the next great hint will come from!

So long folks!

I don't know about lazy, but with the format change, I definately have to make more of an effort to look at the other forums.

As others have said the old way that showed the most recent post for each area meant I would frequently see a thread that caught my attention to bring me into the less busy areas. The new way shows recent posts from all forums but due to volume the bulk tend to be armor or aircraft posts.

As a result I have to remind myself to peak into the other areas occasionally to see what is going on.

I do not know if I should call it lazy. But I am defenitly not liking the new forums due to the "closed look"

I used wander around armor, sci fi etc sometimes in the old format. The new format does not invite me to do that.

I'm pretty much feeling the same way as everybody else here, and it made me lazy enough to not reply the first time I came across this one.

I really did prefer the way the old layout had the latest post under each topic. That's my only real gripe with the whole change thing. That and the ^%#@ smilies window freezes up my PC for 8.5 minutes before it opens up. stupid smilies

New Forum:

I go to those areas in which I'm interested and see if there are posts I'd like to read. I read those. Occasionally, I'll take a peak in other areas in which I'm less interested and scope out any that strike my fancy.

The old forum seemed more personal to me.
