What scale Stuard tank would work best with GI COMBAT theme.

Hello,

I was big DC Comic, GI COMBAT fan, with the Jeb Stuard watching over his grandgrandson (if I remember right) who commanded a Stuard Tank in WWII.  I was thinking of doing a diorama with Jeb Stuard approx. 54mm and I not not sure scale Stuard Tank to use.  Also, which Stuard Tank model would you suggust using?

Thanks for your help.

"The Haunted Tank"? Probably one of the new AFV M5s would work nicely or an Academy M3A1.

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Hi Jim,

If you're using a 54mm figure, it will be (approx) 1/32 scale. This means that the tank will be a 1/35 scale kit. The figure will be slightly overscale, but unless you're going to have other figures in close proximity, the difference will be negligible.

Of the Stuart kits available, Tamiya's old M3 kit is usable, though it has some dimensional issues because it was designed to be motorised, so it had to be able to fit a motor, gearbox and batteries within its hull pan. It also has tracks with the end connectors moulded incorrectly to each track block, so they don't actually connect the track links to each other. It does come very inexxpensively though and is a quick and easy build.

Though it also has some issues, Academy's much newer kit has better detail and includes an interior. .

It started out being an M3 which would best be the Academy kit. The Tamiya kit was a diesel engined variant that was used in stateside training only. They eventually pieced together a tank from US and German tanks when the M3 was destroyed. Their final tank was a Sherman, M4A3 if I am correct.

The AFV Club Stuarts are the later M3A3 (not used by the US) and the M5/M5A1, both of which utilize a different hull and turret than the M3/M3A1 and does not look the same.

All the above kits are 1/35 scale and would be the only ones close to 54mm (1/32).

Yes the "The Haunted Tank", it was a fun read as a kid and I think it would be fun built.
