Best hobby shop experience? Had mine today!

So, I live in the San Antonio area and this is the biggest one horse town in Texas so to have a good hobby shop to go to, I have to make the pilgrimage up I35 to Austin and go to Kings Hobby Shop.

Im going there to see if I can find a compressor adaptor that will fit my Iwata airbrush.  So talking to the guy, I find out that I need to go to yet another place (plumbing supply at that) to get this part.  I kinda complain that Im from out of town and write down the directions reluctantly and leave the counter.  As Im browsing, I see the guy coming down the aisle with something in his hand and he asks me if I have a regulator already and Im like, 'yeah' and he says 'well, can you use a brand new water trap?'  As he explains, apparently someone bought a Paasche R-75AR regulator/water trap and the regulator was broken, but the water trap had the connection I needed and he simply gave it to me at no charge...this is an almost $40 part.  I was thrilled...if he had any idea how much he REALLY helped me... This is the kind of service that I live for but dont get very often these days.  As soon as I finish this, Im hooking everything up and getting ready to paint!

I love King's Hobby Shop.  I used to live about 2 miles from there when I was a kid.  I remember the times riding my bike over there to buy the latest Estes rockets about 25 years ago.  I now live in South Austin but will still bypass my local Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and HobbyTown to go to King's to buy my modeling supplies and kits.  The best, most friendly, people in the business!

Speaking again of Kings, I was able to put a nasty rumor to rest.  I had heard a few weeks back that Kings was closing permanently.  Well, I went to Model Fiesta today (big model show we have once a year) and as usual, Kings had a huge spot and I asked about them supposedly closing and the guy said that they are NOT closing. Big Smile

I love Kings, but I was able to find a top notch hobby shop here in town (relatively new too) and he is great.  He does a good bit of business online and he deals primarily with plastic kits, no RC or other crap.
