I get a kick out of the part where the guy says "Brain damage caused by over exposure to solvents." Geez! I mean come on, unless I bathe, eat, and drink thinner I don't think the odds are in favor of me getting brain damage anytime soon. I have a better chance of brain damage by slipping on some stairs and whacking my head then I do through over exposure to solvents.

I have some bad news for both of  you: this actually happens. Have a beer, brain cells die. Sniff some solvent, brain cells die.

Now, you have a lot of brain cells (well, some do, anyway) and you can afford to lose some (well, that's debatable) but what is the cumulative effect……

……or are we already seeing it?

Personally I think eating at McDonald's is killing me faster than anything I do modeling.

However I did just buy my 1st set of Friulmodel metal tracks and the warning reads-
"Not suitable for children under 10 yrs. of age because of Lead-Bearing material."

I'll be making sure to wash my hands VERY thoroughly after building them.

OMG!!! I'm giving up this hobby and taking up bomb disposal. I'll obviously live longer.

Some people are more sensitive than others. I can tolerate a lot but the one thing that gets me is walking through a department store with a huge perfume display. Macy's is the worst! One day one of the little teeniebopper clerks was spraying perfume out into the aisle. I told her as I approached its bad enough I have to walk through here to get into the store, if you so much as sprits that crap anywhere near me you'll be sued for applying pesticides without a license. The manager suddenly took notice of what the clerks were doing. Perfume wars!

Yeah, and brushing your teeth also causes cancer, as well as breathing and eating. All you need is common sense...protection from the dangers. I think if everyone were to follow all these warnings about doing life, nobody would ever get anything accomplished, ever. We would all be hypochondriacs afraid to leave the house. I found that site quite some time ago and was instantly disgusted by it. I deliberately didn't post it because usually when the general population reads something like that they panic. Are the safety precautions a good idea? Absolutely. But there is no need to go overboard with it. Ever notice how when there is something beneficial for people, someone with too much time on their hands has to go and point out all the worst possible aspects of it? Speaking of too much time on hand; I stumbled across an article in the news a couple of months ago that stated, with empirical evidence even, that mans best friend leaves a larger carbon footprint than an SUV!  Come on people, get with the program and get a life. (said the modeller with too much time on his hands replying to this post)

I skimmed it. Slightly alarmist but essentially good advice. Some of the chemicals he lists are very unlikely to be present in most of the products we use, but better safe than sorry.

His suggestions for protection are right on. Adequately protected, you need fear none of the long term effects, at least from your hobby.

I've been trying to get this across to people for years. An exercise in frustration.
