Yes Andrew, the Storch is an odd bird for sure, definitely an acquired taste! I was in the same boat when I picked that one up, a couple of gift certificates from the LHS arrived for my birthday so I felt obligated to go big with something I wouldn't have bought ordinarily. 1/32? That's going to be a big swordfish! And still something a little different - approved! Yes

I know it's a different scale & manufacturer, but you should have a look at Pierre's Stringbag over on ARC. He did a pretty amazing build & dio for it, which I'm pretty sure plenty folk here will have seen;

Andrew,  I was going to suggest the Trumpeter Fw 200 Condor.  For less than $100 delivered, thats a whole lot of plane !  Or you could go to your LHS and buy half of an Airfix 1/24 Mosquito, lol.

I was at my LHS today and the bloke asked me did I want to order one in....Not until hell freezes over I said, not for $240.

enjoy building that string bag.

Michael, my first (and only) wife can do that when she wants to as well, but sometimes shes nice to me and lets me spends it.Black Eye

Jeff, have to agree with Vance on that one LOL. Honestly got everthingthing I need ( i think) equipment wise at the moment.

Vance, Sorry, while I'm enjoying your storch in the winter GB, she's not my cup of tea.

Milairjunkie, couldnt find one in stock with my preferred online stores, would of been nice though.

AaronW, already have a 48 scale CH-53 on workbench so bypassing those choppers for now, did check out and bookmark those sites, some interesting stuff on there.

So what did  go for? Well with the trumpeter discussions going on about the time I posted this thread, plus the info I got sometime ago in a thread asking tamiya vs trumpy swordfish, I went with a 1/32 Trumpeter Swordfish for about $75USD delivered with the change I also got a 1/48 Kinetic F-16I (I love what those overwing conformal fuel tanks do to it) with a colour PE set (my first go of these).

JeffW

The kit ideas are great, but don't forget that you can also upgrade/restock your tools, too!

Darnnit, JeffW arrives with good, logical advice while we're trying to enlarge someone's unbuilt stash!! Wink

Hey Konigwolf, I'm presently building up Tamiya's 1/48 Storch. It got a lot of hype when it was released, and I've got to say it's worth it. Very well engineered, odd subject matter, lots of colour options - there are even aftermarket upgrades if you want to blow the whole $110. Could be the centerpiece of a great diorama.

I saw a picture of a yellow-red-white version in Swiss service, if the Storch isn't odd enough to start with!

I love spending other people's money!

We have one "contest" in our whole state, happens every three years or so. And while its on next month, last time I went the only venders where hobby shops with stalls selling at normal prices Angry

Or, just hold onto the money, wait for the next local contest and hit the vendor tables. For $110 you could come out with three arm loads of great stuff!!!

I don't know if modern jets are your thing, but the Trumpeter 1/72 Tu-160 Blackjack is a lovely, huge & well done kit of this impressive aircraft.

If you dont like the O/A white, an early model in patch NMF would be different.

So basically just looking for expensive kits that are worth building?

The Special Hobby 1/72 CH-37 is definately different. Not the most attractive helicopter around but it is impressive and would definately add something unusual to your display case. Being a large limited run kit it can be a bit of a challenge to build. I know Sprue Brothers had it for around $50.

Zvesda's Mi-26 is also an impressive helicopter and much less fiddly to build than the CH-37. It is 1/72 but its a big helicopter (rotor span is about 18"). Its a nice kit, usually in the $45-50 range.

Trumpeters American LaFrance fire engine is a nice kit, and the ALF is a good looking truck. It is also the only plastic kit available of a modern American fire engine. It generally runs $60-80.

You can also have a look at the many Mach 2 kits, expensive, and usually have a rather poor fit, but for many subjects they are the only option. They offer some really neat subjects, just be warned many people say Mach 2 is the speed the model will travel when you throw it against a wall. In reality from the handful of their kits I have, I'd say you are getting early Airfix quality at current "Tamigawa" prices.

If you want to give resin a try Anigrand has some neat stuff, lots of experimental and prototype aircraft. I only have one of their kits, the Bell HSL-1, but it looks nice. Clean well cast resin parts. Not a highly detailed kit but not bad. I've heard some of their monster sized kits like the 1/72 C-17 have some problems due to the large castings.

If you are into armor Accurate Armor and Wespe models have some neat resin kits.

With that money, I will spend on 1/700 trumpeter CVN and buy a couple more of fighter jet to fill up the whole deck.

That's a tough question to ask as everyone hear would tell you what "they" would like and this would have little to do what you want or need. For me it would be to add to my kit collection, but at todays prices, your money wouldn't go far.

Specifically need? Nothing. I've got two 1/350  ships with PE going at the moment, so wanting to steer away from stuff that small (but its not an absoloute). I was just after some ideas away from what I might consider the norm, trying to think of things I dont normally consider because of price. I did consider tamiyas new spit but I already have a Mk IX in 48 waiting to be built.

What do you need?

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom. " Charles Spurgeon

Ok the missus gave me $50 to buy a hobby online with for my birthday, I've been able to scrape another 60 dollars together, so I've got a budget of $110.

Any suggestion looked at
