Do you store your decals seperate ?

Had a scare this week with some uninvited stormwater getting into the "Man Cave"  a couple of kits got wet but nothing damaged.  I had to very carefully seperate the decals from a Revell 2001 catalogue that was inside the 1/48 B-25 box.  After that scare, I think I'm going to remove the decals from every kit and store them in the binder with clear inserts where I keep my spares.  Who else removes the decals from the box ?

Any kit that comes home with me is opened (of course! Who can't?), the decals removed and placed in zip lock bags, some of which may need to be carefully split to get them to fit. If the sheet isn't marked, I do so with a marker on the outside and these are stored in plastic storage bins on a shelf. I use some basic catagories like "Modern Jets", "Helicopters" "WWII Aircraft" "Armor" and so on. One bin holds nothing but aftermarket decals. This protects them from accidents and also humidity as I have evaporative cooling in my house and have to take extra steps to protect my man-cave and it's contents from it. The instructions are also removed and stored in a file cabinet (by type). I am a disorganized person and have to 'over'-organize in order to find anything at all.

Typically I leave my decals with the kit, but I keep my kits on a shelf off the floor and away from the basement wall. Moisture has a way of weeping from the concrete into paper boxes. A gap of at least six inches as well as ample air circulation prevents moisture and the resulting mold from attacking the boxes. During the summer I will leave a small fan blowing under and behind the stash to prevent moisture buildup.

My aftermarket and spare decals are kept in flat boxes or binders.

After finding some of the decals in kit boxes more or less ruined, I started opening the kits when new and putting the decals in zip-lock bags and placing in an air tight plastic box in the closet in my hobby room. Haven't had any go bad since.

I keep mine separate.  I have a lot of aftermarket decals like Eagle Strike and Aeromaster that come in ziplock bags.  I just put the supplied tissue over all my decal sheets (aftermarket and kit), put them in the bag and stick the bag under my spares box in a drawer in my desk.
