ICM Models
Posted by PHM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 11:24 AM

Hello Fine Scale Modeler Community,

My name is Vincent Margiotta and I am Co-Owner of Pastime Hobbies, LLC. located in Bayonne, NJ.

I am interested in bringing in ICM Models, but need some help from the community with regard to personal

experience (positive or negative) with the assembling of models from this model kit company.

Thank you!

Vincent

I've built some ICM aircraft kits, their details tends to be softer and simplified as compared to Tamiya or Hasegawa,  However, they look fairly accurate to me and the price tends to be 1/2 of what those brands charges. They do have a nice selection of 1/48 figures, which are not easy to come by. So I think its a worthwhile brand.

I built the ICM TB-3 Zveno and it was the single most difficult kit i have ever built! The rest of the ICM line is of more conventional design and parts breakdown. Here is a pic of the cantankerous beast!

I have purchased many of their kits (aircraft, armor, figures) and built a few. Overall I hold them in good regard. Their quality has improved and their subject matter is quite good. It is not the same stuff all the other manufacturers put out. My only real gripe about them would be fragile decals in some kits, and heavy amounts of mold release agent on the sprues.  On the plus side, detail is very good, variety of subjects pretty good, while fit and detail has been getting better and better. Not to mention that they keep their products affordable. As long as they keep on teh same track, I will buy their stuff.

I have only built one figure set by them ( the 1/35 German tank crew posing for a picture) and I found it to be a great kit. The details were crisp and clear with very realistic poses.

Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Only built one, the Luchs, but I liked it... It was a fairly straight-forwrd build, except I didn't care for the indy-link tracks.  However, I don't like those kind of tracks regardless of who makes them...

The figures that came with it, I found the molds to be crisp, well detailed, and easy to assemble, although I mix 'em up a lot..

If I see another that interests me, subject -wise, I'd buy it...

FineScale Modeler has reviewed a bunch of ICM kits over the year all fairly poistively. Their subject matter is always interesting and although they don't go together as easily as Tamiya, they have gotten consistently better.

Cheers, Aaron

I have a few airplane kits by them and I always have had good results...they often include more extra's than most companies, such as complete engines and very tricked-out cockpits and sometimes even groundcrew...I particlarly like their "Aces" series, which honors a specific ace...

i love them    they need a bit more tlc  than the shake and bakes (tam  has )  but with tlc  they build into every bit as good as the others   and from a modelers $ and time  more bang for your buck

as far as their bomber  it is a very hard kit to do    it is the closest you will ever get in plastic to building a real plane  because you are building  it from the frame up

I ONCE BOUGHT ONE OF THEIR MODELS IT WAS AWFUL, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT FIT IN THE AIRPLANE AND THERE WERE HUGE GAPS IN THE FUSELAGE. THE DECALS WERE BRITTLE AND MOVED OUT OF PLACE EASILY.

As Aaron mention the newer the mold the better they are getting. Not shake n bake but you can build a nice one. figure kits have lots of extra bits to em.
