Making a copy of an OLD model ?

Well after reading everthing and thinking hard about it, I think I will just build the kit.

For me doing something like that would be a BIG undertaking.

I think you will find it is not economically practical unless it is a particularly expensive kit. Like Hans I've done useful parts I want extras of, but you could easily spend $100-150 to copy even a fairly simple (like Airfix or Matchbox) 1/72 fighter kit.

FSM did a pretty good article on resin casting a few years ago, I don't remember which issue it was but I'd guess it was 2005 or 2006.

You're asking for way more info than what can be practically posted in here... But, in a nutshell, you'll need to able to do TWO things.. Cast parts with RTV molds and resin, and vacuform...    I use Alumilite for casting;

Hans is right, fair use allows you to make a copy in order to preserve the original. As long as you don't start up a production line, you will have no problem.

There aren't any copyright issues if you do it ONLY for youself and don't try to profit from it, or pas it around...  It' the same as music... If you want to make a copy of something you already bought and use it for your own entertainment, there's no law against that...

Besides, I make copies of parts all the time, figures and engines and the like, and have yet to see "Copyright Police" kick m' door down...

It's like back in the day of LPs and casette tapes... I made tape-copies of all my albums to play in the car...

Your right, I never thought about the copyright issues.

I will just have to build the one I have.

You may run into tricky copyright issues!If you still want to do it the best bet would be making rtv molds of the parts and resin casting them.2-parts molds are required for the fuselage unless you don't mind a very heavy solid fuselage.Plus RTV and resin are not cheap so make sure you know what you are doing.
