New man cave!
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Friday, July 23, 2010 8:40 AM

Some of you may recall the post I did about my move a few weeks ago.  I had to scratch the itch and pull out a kit to work on while I boxed stuff up.   Anyway, the  move is complete and most stuff is unpacked and somewhat organized.  Here are a few pics of my new man cave.  I don't have the art up on the walls yet, but a lot of it still needs framed.

In this shot-my bench with computer on right side.  The black toolbox ($100 at WalMart) on the right holds paints, tools, sandpaper, and glues.  The black file cabinet ($25 on Craigslist) on the left holds scratchbuilding stuff, dio supplies, decals, and most of the more toxic chemicals.  Both are lockable to keep my kids out of it.  My stash is on top of the file cabinet.  About 14 kits or so.  Airbrushing hookah is at the foot of the file cabinet.

Here's a shot of the other side of the room-the display area.  Both display cases I scored off Craigslist for $125.  In the corner is my UFO abduction diorama (not seen yet on FSM), and under the window is a dio I did of my old service bay at the dealership I used to work at.  I'll have to post those up in detail some time.

Panning further left on the south wall, another display shelf.  That's the old Lindberg Blue Devil Fletcher kit on top,  and you will probably recognize the 1/72 RoG U-boat below it.  You can also see a bit more stash in the bottom of that display case in the corner, which I haven't set up the shelves for yet.

Here's a shot facing back towards the door.  The door to the room enters at a diagonal to the walls, so it's kinda funky.  Bottom right is my paint booth setup, which sits on the bench and hooks up to a window.  Usually it's set aside like that for storage.

There you  have it!  I just completed HobbyBoss's 1/350 Type 39 Song Class diesel electric sub, which is the kit I had opened up during the move.  Maybe next week I'll post up that and the two dioramas for you all to gawk at.

Chris

That looks like a nice setup.  Soooo, what ya got behind those closet doors?? Devil

My bench is set up in a corner of my basement.  Completely unfinished, so not ideal.  One of these days in the not too distant future, I hope to get a couple hundred bucks of building supplies and put up some walls and a drop ceiling, just to tidy it up.  Threads like this serve as both motivation and inspiration.  Thanks!

I forgot!  The other hobby is guns, so the closet holds the gun safe.  :D
