How much paint?
Posted by lolok on Saturday, January 10, 2004 1:14 PM
In our various therapy sessions we have all been asked to fess up on how many kits we have squirreled away but how about the residuals.
How many bottles/tins of useable paint do you have lying around. I won't even ask about all the tools and gadgets which we absolutely need to produce that perfect kit.Big Smile [:D] I have about 150 tins and bottles, mainly humbrol and Testors, some Tamiya. That does not include the spray cans from humbrol,Tamiya and my local car supplies outlet.

Six years ago when we moved the packers tossed a garbage bag full of old model paint tins and bottles, must have been at least 100.

Now the collection is slowly increasing again as I get back into things.

Close to a hundred tins of paint. Mostly Humbrol and ModelMasters, but also includes Tamiya, Testors, Polly Scale and Floquil.

I also have a growing collection of artist paint tubes. I have enamel and acrylic paints that I use for weathering tanks.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

What an interesting question, I would have thought about 40 but on counting can confess to 81 tins/bottles of Tamiya (93%), Gunze and Humbrol. Also another 30-35 spray cans, mostly Duplicolour automotive spray or Tamiya plus a couple more of specially mixed McLaren Orange and Subaru Blue

THERAPY?

I have over 300 bottles of enamel paints, 98% of them Model Master Enamels with many duplicates. The other 2% consists of various Humbrol , Testors standard square bottles and a couple of bottles of acrylic paints.

But I haven't bought anymore paints in the last...uhhh... three days. I'm getting better because I almost bought two different color paints but I held back and just bought one color.

I usually carry a bottle of paint I'm going to use later in my pocket so it will get mixed well in the course of the day. I do make sure the bottle is closed! Shaken, not stirred, right?

I have a bottle of Testors Gloss Enamel Black next to me now that I roll around in my hand.

OK.................I need the therapy.

Good question, made me go look. Got about 500 bottles down there, split aprox 40 percent Model Master, 30 percent Humbrol, 10 percent Testors (small bottles) 10 percent Pactra (both large & small bottles) and 10 percent Misc (Alcad etc). Those are the ones I sure are usuable. Also got about 50 bottles I'm sure are not usuable but will clean them out and use them as I need them (I can use most of them with my airbrush)
Didn't count several cans of spray paint (including the automotive spray primer I use)

I'm not much for enamel anymore so I only have about a dozen bottles of ModelMaster. For the past 2 yrs I began using DecoArt acrylics. These are artist a paints that come in thousands of different colors, are mixable, and airbrush really well. However, HobbyLobby puts them on sale all the time for .49 cents a 2 oz. bottle. So I now have a few bottles. Close to 80.

I've only been back modelling for 10 months, so didn't figure I had many..............

..........I make it 60.

Alright not as many as when I was a teenage modeller, 100+, but I had been modelling for years then!

And the 60 doesn't include the airbrush mixes!!!!

Right now.....I have 323 bottles of useable paint.....I threw out about 100 back in October that were solid or otherwise un-useable.

The majority is MM Enamel and Testors Enamel, with some Humbrol, Pactra/Tamiya/Vallejo/MM/ and Faskolor Acrylics mixed in.....

Im switching over to Acrylics almost exclusively slowly but surely....Hmmmmm what will I do with all my MM Enamels.....Oh well, Im sure I'll figure something out.

All of mine fit into a halktrack kit box. Alot of old testors enamel but I'm slowly switching to acrylics. I'd say the majority of the enamel I have had for years and have started switching since I started building armor about 6 months ago when I got back into building.

Come to think of it, I take inventory of my models but not my paints. So I counted and found out I have 172 bottles and tinlets on stock (Pactra, Tamiya, Gunze, Model Master, Humbrol, Revell, Testors). Some of them are over 30 years old and still good!
