I've built HOW many models?
Posted by tankboy51 on Thursday, July 29, 2010 3:57 PM

I just did a rough head count of the still existing built up models in my collection and the total as of 7/29/12 is 720.  That's right, 720.  That's existing, doesn't count those destroyed or sold on commision.  And that is for roughly the last 25 years. There have been maybe 200 or more built in the roughly 20 years before that I was more or less seriously building.  These have long ago gone to the great Plastic Graveyard.  So maybe the stash of  almost 1700 kits remaining to be built, and I can probably eliminate several hundred as "not worth building" could have a better chance than I thought,.  If my health stays good, and the eyes and hands keep working.Big Smile (I have some pretty fair genes in the family). Of course there is the little problem of, "where am I going to put these things!".  Mostly tanks, but still quite a few planes and serveral ships, some of the1/360 variety.  Ah such fun.  Can't wait to build the next 1000!YesYes

Is this a good number or about average.  Thoughts?

720 built? I'd love to see how you display them all.

Even MORE amazing is that you can see two years into the future!!! Can you tell me who wins the Superbowl? Or if I'll ever get around to building that 1/350 Nimitz??

Oopsie, typo.  Of course it's today's date, 2010.  I think I'll leave it uncorrected, just to prove I'm not infallible.Angel

As to display, that's getting to be an issue.  Most of the planes are on the ceiling in the basement, still some airspace there, I just have to stay clear of the air above the pool table, and around the work area.  There are several book cases holding a couple hundred.  Uostairs in the study/piano room are the rest of 'em,  Mostly on bookcases, about 11 bookcases, and some more aircraft on the ceiling there, mostly Naval prop jobs. I don't have many in the main living area, I keep it model free, so my wife isn't totally innundated by them.  She gets to keep her multitude of dragon, unicorn, pegasuses(?), and a Barnes and Noble size collection of books, tastefully displayed in a cabinet and more bookcases.  We are collecting fools.  And of course, zero in the bedroom. Wink

All my modeling buddies love coming over to Uncle Doug' museum and model emporium.  My dog is trained to sniff out any unauthorized models leaving the premises without permission.  Smart Dog.

I'm up to 145 displayed, a handful relegated to the boneyard. Half dozen armor, a dozen choppers and the rest are planes. Mostly 1/48.

My display is on somewhat of a conveyer belt, so to speek. Some of the older one just don't stand up well next to some of the newer ones, so they fall off the end into the boneyard, but not until they are replaced of course!

I have no idea how many I've built over the years, but I currently have like 15 on display. Embarrassed The vast majority are from when I joined the forums 7 years ago. Not a great track record, but I have put more time into the bench and expect to have many more completed.
