padakr

Haven't seen her since before last weekend, but we're supposed to be getting together tonight for dinner.  I'll give her the start-up kit and show her my medal then.

Oh man!  I wish I had seen this post sooner!  I would have said "Tell her that everyone here in the FSM chat community are behind her all the way!!!"  That is so awesome that she's picked up a model kit.  Paul, I've got two little girls (ages 7 and 3) and I've often wondered if they'll ever become model builders.  They enjoy the kits I put together and give to them.  In fact, yesterday afternoon, my seven year old and I worked on her model Stegosaurus together!  I dipped the brush in the paint and she painted the dino.  She also picked out the colors on this and her previous dinosaur kits which she now has displayed in her room.

Part of me can't help to think that, statistically speaking, my hobby will probably die with me when it's my turn to go.  But I'd love it if they defied the odds and became model builders themselves.  No, let me change that.  I'd just love it if they picked up ANY constructive hobby as they grow up.  My hobby has given me my sanity.  I think I'd go crazy if I didn't have this or any other hobby.

So kudos to your 18 year old daughter for expressing an interest.  Will she like it?  Maybe yes, maybe no.  But you've got to give her credit for just trying it.  That's all I ever ask of my kids.

Let us know how it all turns out!

Keep us posted on how she makes out with the Apache. It might make Christmas and Birthday shopping a little easier. Big Smile

If she enjoys it, I'll be happy for her.  If she doesn't, I wouldn't want her to keep it up just to "make me happy".  Which she wouldn't.

So cool to see another young person interested in the hobby and a member of the fairer sex as well! We need someone to carry on the hobby!

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Very happy for you Paul. You've got a lot of great talent to pass on to her. Did you tell her about taking  the medal last weekend?

Got a text from my daughter....

Got a text from my 18 year-old daughter last night asking for help. She didn't know what kind of glue or paint to use.  I responded that I didn't know for what she was talking about.  She then explained that the picture didn't go through. So she then sent it again.

She bought a Apache kit:

Surprise She's never expressed any interest in modeling in the past, and I am surprised at her choice of subjects (she has never seemed a military buff, not like my son was).

I explained about the basic supplies, glue, paint, and such, via text (it's cheaper for her than making a phone call).  And then told her I would put together a little supply kit for her to borrow to see if she likes modeling before investing in tools of her own.  Got the 40% Micheal's coupon for tomorrow and I'll stop by and pick up one of those Testors military paint sets.

Who knows, she may like it.
