Fine Scale 'Send what you like to build' Secret Santa?
Posted by smeagol the vile on Monday, October 4, 2010 9:34 PM

Hey guys.  As you know before I ran the armor Secret Santa, but forgot last year.  Every year an Aircraft secret santa is run as well.

Recently I had a thought though.  Now alot of us stick with one subject or so because that is what we are used to and dont branch out much for one reason or another.

so, I am wondering if anyone would be interested in a 'Send what you like' group build.

If there was anything you specificly did NOT want you would put that down, say you dont have the room for 1/32nd scale airplanes, or a shelf wide enough for the wingspan of a helicopter propeller.

Apart from that you would get matched with someone else, mostly based on geographical location for cheapness of shipping and you would send them something from YOUR favorite genre, or a kit that YOU feel best shows off the pros of your type of building.  If thats 1/35th scale armor, then send that.  If its 35mm Warhammer figures then send that.

I wouldnt say this is a 'group build' per say, because there is no end date and no pressure to build what you get right away, only the stipulation that you do indeed build it at one point and show pictures when you do.

So, anyone up for it?

Before you judge someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. After that, who cares? They're a mile away and you've got their shoes!

SQUEEE!!!, ive always wanted to take part in one of these. what sort of price limit are we putting on it? Im guessing quite high because warhammer stuff is hideously expensive. Well, it is here anyway.

I may put a price limit but Im thinking this.

25$ max spending cap.  If someone doesnt have that much, sends off a 10$ kit, and gets a 40$ kit in return, may make him feel bad for spending so little

I'd be in. Might be better/easier to order online and send direct due to cost of kitsat LHS down this way.

Oh that is definatly an option and I know some sites actually have gift wrapping.

The problem with ordering it and giving their address is that you don't get a chance to make sure its right and all.

What I did when I ran the armor one was ordered the kits (I got a few cheap ones that fit together) and then put them in a box, wrapped it, and shipped it out myself.

Perhaps you could match people that have similar prices? Say I spend $15 on a kit you could match me with a person that spent the same, plus or minus $5.

Well thats why I said 25, not going to find to many kits under 10$ then with shipping and all.  I think 25$ or under for everyone would be best.  If I had to cross reference people by cost and location would end up a bit more work for me anyhow

count me in,  for uk would £25 max for the kit be acceptable? postage on top of.

i have a few ideas brewing.

we could do some sort of january GB where we show off our pressies, and build em.

regardless of schedules or current builds, it would be pretty rude to put it to one side

just because something else is on the wb.

Well the Pound is worth more then the dollar, saddly...  Im not going to say NO YOU CAN NOT SPEND MORE if you really want to be nice and charitable, or if the cost goes to like 26$ or something.

The way I ran the last one I did was basicly.

You get it, wrap it, and ship it out

they get it, put it away

Christmas day everyone opens it, comes here posts what they got.  Then they build it when they get around to it, just dig up the old thread and post in it.

thats cool, looking at conversion it looks like you can get kits cheaper in the U.S e.t.c,

running down to  £15 in the uk gets you not a lot unless you get a really good deal,

would it be ok to ship directly if possible, post in the uk is ridiculous?!

sorry i seem to be putting this down, im not , i would love to take part.!  heck, even if its international, i could buy on a store based on my Reciever, and ship direclty to them  that way.

anyway im skint all the time  but i am Very willing to join in and spread the sprue...

did i tell you about the time i got passively mugged for £10 by a 13yo girl .....

Would it be ok if we sent something from our stash? Not that im going to, but if might be a cheaper option for someone. especially if they get paired with me lol.

From stash is fine.  Honestly, that makes it more personal, its something of yours your sending.

25lb is fine with me.  Also if you buy from a usa shop and have them ship it, while its not the best, that would be easy on your wallet.

now dont go buying stuff right yet, we need to get everything set up before hand

Smeagol.

Yes, he has become quiet the builder and we been doing kit exchanges for some years round this time of year.

Any kit is fine for him, same for me.
