Has this GB idea been done before?
Posted by Kugai on Sunday, October 17, 2010 1:25 AM

I joked about this on one of the other threads, but have been thinking it isn't such a bad idea.  Of course, that means it's probably been done before, so I thought I'd check.

The idea is this:  Every GB I've noticed is based around the idea of starting the kit for the build, no previously-started stuff, which makes sense.  Of course we want to have the opportunity to see the full process and have a chance to ask and answer questions as we go along.  While this idea would allow for the Q&A, it would have another goal.

Supporting each other in getting some of these "back burner" kits we've stockpiled done.

I know I've done it, though I hadn't realized to what extent until packing and sorting the things for my move a few months back, and I'd guess a few others have too.  I start on a kit and something causes me to put it on the back burner.  Sometimes it's nothing more than getting to a point where I have to wait for paint to fully cure or for some critical supplies to be restocked at the LHS and work on something else to fill up the time.  Some of these kits just get lost in the shuffle and I forget about them

Sometimes it's running into a dead end because of some new technique I planned to use not turning out to be as easy as I expected, and by the time I know what I need to continue I've forgotten about it.

Sometimes I want to get back to the thing eventually but am so sick of dealing with it for the moment that I don't even want to look at it for a while ( I have and Enterprise-D that I started over 10 years ago that I was going to light up that fits this description.  After drilling about 3000 holes for the windows it was put aside and I still haven't gotten back to it ).

So here's the idea: Let's get some of these puppies out and finish them already.  As I mentioned, I found out just how many of them I have and have made it a point to be working on at least 2 or 3 at the same time as I'm working on new-start projects ( I even marked the box I moved them in as "priority kits ).

So, would this be something new, or would it fit into another GB that's already in progress that I missed and can sign up for?

Yeah, there was one similar to what you're talking about a few months back... I'll see if I can find it...

Guess it was more than a few months, lol... Been done for some time, lol..

This's what you're talking about, right? Something similar?

Should be able to start one up, for sure, especially since the Badge is even gone, lol...

Yep, that's pretty much the idea.  So from there, would it be breaking any "unwritten code of conduct" to try  GB concept already done by someone else?  I don't want to risk irritating someone even if the end date for that build was almost a year ago.

Assuming that there wouldn't be an issue over it being done before, is anyone interested in trying this out?

Yeah, I did sign up for that one, but then I got too busy with other stuff. No lie, really, I did.

Might inspire me to drag out two or three 'works in process' and finish them......or not....

The official:

'Back on the burner  II GB'

Leftovers are more tasty the second round, dig deep past the recent purchases & pull out something partially started!

'Git  R' done all ready GB II'

Don't start any new kits, lets get a few partial kit starts finished before our collections bury then further!

Ok count me in, I am the worst for being a 30-30 modeler. That is 30% of my kits are 30% complete. I have a few right now that need this GB (carry overs allowed?) I will put them down in priority:

Italeri 1/72 Hetzer 'Chwat' (75% complete, 38(t) GB & No AM GB)

DML 1/144 scale 38(t) (15% complete, 38(t) GB)

Trumpeter 1/32 scale P-51 Mustang (65% complete, NMF II GB)

CMT? 1/35 scale WWI vignette of Joseph Cable (40% complete, no GB)

AMT 1/24 scale Mercury Coup (20% complete, no GB)

Trumpeter 1/144 scale Thor siege mortar (40% complete, no GB)

Revell 1/570 scale Titanic (10% complete, probably will remain so until 2012)

-That is 6 partial starts out of 14 kits! Still my average is 30-30 as 3000 miles away is the rest of my extensive stash, including partial starts and complete kits.
