I guess my 6 1/72 KC-135s, 5 1/48 F-4s and 5 1/48 Blackhawk/Seahawk variants puts me on the fairly normal side of things. Geez, and to think I was worried I had an addiction.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

 Manstein's revenge:

13 ounces of plastic styrene and 2 pounds of putty gives you this:

A  pocketfull of curses and half a gallon of CA(I don't use putty) will give you THIS:

oh yeah, and a needle in a pin vice for 229,000 rivets!!!

Nice!  I like your nose-art better! And the rivets--wow!!!

229,000 rivets! hmm...I've heard that number somewhere...

I think I can smell av gas, nice weathering and tarmac.

Well, my 'Phoenix' was eventually detailed with very realistic bullet holes. I used real bullets, but only a few. I didn't bother to put what was left on display. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot left to show you guys...half a horizontal stabilizer. Glue marks/fingerprints are all the weathering it has.

Those are both great but the detailed one is phenomenal!  I'd be happy as a stuck pig if ours comes out half as good.  I really gotta get a pin vise...

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

On the Tarmac:  F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.

Manstein's revenge:

That looks a heck of alot better than my first two efforts.

I'm guessing that's a RevellMonogram #7546. The big P-61's horizontal stabilizer I mentioned earlier matches pretty close dimensionally to this kit's, but it is no where near as detailed. As you mentioned about these being unbuilt, I too have a couple of those.

Did you have fit problems or contour issues, ie the 'two pounds of putty,'? It looks like you scratch built details for the rear hatch as well, can't tell for sure.

I'm not sure if you masked/painted or used decals for details, but you could add '3 pounds of patience' to your formula. Great detailing, thanks for the pics.

Yeh I remember the P61.  As a matter of fact I am looking at an unstarted one I got on eBay for $4 last year.  The BIG old Revell kit.  I'm saving it for my Daughter.  Every model builder should build that kit at least once. lol

I wonder what model kit has sold the most?

From what I've seen on this and other sites:

RevelloGram P-61 in 1:48

I seems EVERYBODY has a tale to tell of their Black Widow experience.

My P61 Experience:

1970ish, bought a P-61, it was great, lots of rivets. Earned money, saved for weeks, bought a big P-61. It was awful, no rivets, no detail, and huge plastic parts. Saw the movie Flight of the Phoenix.  Built a P-61 'Phoenix,' and made a mini-sub out of the fuselage. I still have one half of the horizontal stabilizer in my spares box.

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

On the Tarmac:  F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.

The old Monogram kits: P-40s, F4Fs, F6Fs, F4Us, Me109s, Fw190s, TBF Avengers, SB2C Helldivers, SBD Dauntlesses, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mosquitos, P-38s, P-47s, P-51s, and the big bombers, most notably the B-17 kit.  I could not give a count of each of these that I have built over my life time, but I'd say probably 10 of each of the fighters, give or take, and upwards of 7 of the -17s.  Always loved those kits (in fact I loved them so much that I recently bought as many of the original blue box releases as I could find on eBay).

Next to those perhaps the old MPC X-Wing fighter and some of the old Revell fighters in 1/32, most notably the P-40 and the F4F.

My current MBK is the F-86 Sabre. 18 accounted for, 3 built MIA's, no built on hand. I had one almost ready to paint, but it crashed, so it's back in the box.

I would feel safe guessing the "most bought kit" was either an ME109 or P51, just based on how many times they have been kitted. I'd go with one of the 1/48 Revell-Monogram kits due to age (more time to sell the kits).

I know AMT has said the USS Enterprise (Star Trek not WW2) is their best selling kit of all time. It is also one of the few kits to have multiple sets of tooling made for the exact same kit. They had to have another set made to keep up with demand.

Hmmmm...I can believe that the P-61 was the most bought kit of all time...but just as well probably the least built kit at the same time...

RevelloGram P-61 in 1:48

I seems EVERYBODY has a tale to tell of their Black Widow experience.

I've been building Monogram models since 1959 and the P-61 is one few kits that I've never built.  Never had any interest in it for whatever reason.  I also have never built their B-17, which it seems that most people in the known universe have built at least once.

Hmm.......I'll admit to being a greenhorn on the '48th P-61 experience. Never bought the kit, but I'll listen to the stories......

It is...(drumroll)........the SR-71. Five copies I've purchased, all 1/72 (Italieri, Minicraft/Hasegawa x 2, Monogram), if you count the Italieri YF-12A. Built one of the Mincraft/Hasegawa's. Plus a 1/72 Revell(ogram?) and a Testors 1/48 given to me....I gave away the Revell(ogram).

Perhaps Herr Manstein would look favorably upon the second most populous kit, 1/72 Bf-109s....E, F, and 2 G-6s.

Bondoman- I've got 7 of the old Ambroid 1/87 wood 70-ton pulpwood car kits. Back when pulp mills were plentiful in Maine, the Maine Central RR had a LOT of pulpwood cars.

My stash is a little too eclectic to have to many of any one thing. But I have 8 or so Boeing 737s of various types ... so many liveries, so little time.

I've built up 14 Hasegawa (1/48th) F-16s; -A's, -B's, -C's, and -D's - the majority being -C's. Four in USAF markings, two in Dutch AF markings, and the rest in ANG markings, various states. Just like the looks of the -16 and got caught up in the ANG thing. None in the stash, but if someone comes out with a new decal sheet that catches my eye, I'll have to get another one.
