Just a word to the wise: A couple months back when I went in for an eye exam (wanted new glasses) I was diagnosed with glaucoma. I began a regiment of eye drops once a day, but based on a follow-up visit to the ophthalologist last week, the drops are not relieving the pressure on my optic nerve in both eyes. He has recommended surgery and I'm scheduled to go to Vanderbilt the first of Dec. for another exam and probable surgery. Over the years I have neglected getting eye examinations; most of my life I was overseas assigned to countries where you definitely would not want to have any kind of medical exam/procedure. So, just a word to the wise - don't neglect your eyes. What with all the minute detail the majority of us do in modeling, as we get older we are putting a strain on two of our most important assets. Get an eye exam at least once a year and more often if you notice any change/problems with your eyes. Hopefully, the doctors at Vanderbilt will be able to correct my problem and I can continue with the hobby I've enjoyed for over 55 years.
Some use Mj to relieve the pressure caused by glaucoma.
Ask your doctor about this and its pros / cons/ vrs other treatments or surgery.
Sage advice...
Thanks for the advice. I've been having a problem with my shooting eye for months now. Just a hair out of focus compared to my left eye. Maybe I'll have them do a look see.

Get it checked out. I had my left eye in a similar situation. My eyesight hasn't changed in almost 5 years and still use the same prescription.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Very good advice,I thought you were going to talk about eye protection while modeling, which is very important also with all the liquids, sharps, sanding, and possible flying objects that we deal with.
I got that diagnosis a year ago. Drops worked for me. Don't care for the side effects though. That and taking them from now on. I was under the impression that glaucoma was something that progressed gradually but evidently that isn't the case. I had to visit an opthamologist in March of last year and my pressures were just as they had always been, right in the middle of normal. Mid July when I got an exam for new glasses my pressures were off the chart. I had been having some problems for a couple years before that which seem to be the same symptoms I have now but my eye pressures were always normal. And yeh, it did affect my shooting. For lack of a better description, my eyes felt tight. I guess it was the pressure. I also had trouble switching focus from one distance to another and at longer distances my vision was always a little blurry. Any length of time staring through a high power scope really intensified the problems. It was very difficult to work on anything up close such as modeling also. The drops changed all that. But by the time I'm down to the last week or so on a bottle of drops they aren't nearly as effective.
Marijuana does nothing for glaucoma. Although it was thought to at one time.

This is very timely and smart advice.I just recently was diagnosed with early(very early) stage cataracts! Now I also had to get new glasses anyway. The thing is it,s only been two years since my last new pair !! This in and of itself shows that after a certain age eye health and care is VERY IMPORTANT !! I am almost seventy and use my eyes for close work at least 65 hours a week !! Protective glasses(PRESCRIPTION) are a must !! Make sure the ventilation in your work area is MORE than adequate.Paint and glue as well as thinners give off fumes that will affect your eyes.Make sure you have MAGNIFIERS available to use as well. there you have it. I have found that taking a five or ten minute break every hour or so also lets your eyes rest! Good building--tankerbuilder P.S. Don,t forget to have proper lighting too!
