Manstein's revenge
...at Great Models Webstore...I've seen things marked down close to 20% off and I only browsed quickly...I saw the Eduard 110 G-4 nightfighter marked from $64 to $46...
...hell, Hammer might even buy something...nah, he won't...
Aw, Manny... You noticed.. *Sniff*..
To quote Khan Noonian Singh, "I cannot help but be touched...".
Tigerman:
I believe he alluded to the fact that he once splurged and spent something like $30-35 on a kit. So this bound to be out of his comfort zone.
40.00 on an After-market DETAIL set was my most expensive "model" purchase... An M109A2/A3 interior, but I used it as a prototype to cast copies for a commission-build diorama involving 6 of the howitzers, no way was I gonna scratch-build six M109 interiors..... I HAD to have a an AFV Club M-35A1 kit for a prime-mover for my M102 howitzer, and that ran up to 35.00 on Ebay, plus another 8 bucks shipping... That one hurt..
20% off isn't enough, no... 40% or better, with free shipping... Then we're talkin'... I got two Revell Germany Bf 110 G2/R3s anyway... 21.00 each, close-out at a hobby shop I used to frequent before he went all model railroad and RC... Still have a Promodeler Bf 110G-2 WIP too.. Bought it about 14 years ago maybe, started it, then it got boxed up at about 20% complete... Don't remember what it cost... Probably around 25.00, maybe a bit more..
I was even cheaper then than I am now, but I DID like the Promodeler series, as well the Monogram "HighTech" series of re-releases... 25.00 on a kit when a Monogram B-25 or P-61 kit was 12-14.00 ya know... That was a LOT of money, especially on a Staff Sergeant's pay... But I felt like splurging and had the cash on me, so...
Got a 70's-era 1/48th Fujimi C-model Zerstorer around here somewhere too. Bought that one WAY back in the early 80s IIRC... Needs repair, though it's still complete and in fine shape for crash-landing diorama... (I finally remembered and taped a baggie with the broken parts onto it before I boxed it up.) I'm kinda sentimental about that one, I popped my airbrush cherry on that kit with a medium grey-on-dark grey splinter scheme...
So even were I inclined to pay that much, I don't need another G-model Bf 110...
But thanks for reminding me of a well-liked kit I'd forgotten about until now..
