What are the most frequently asked questions on the forum?
Posted by Phil_H on Monday, November 29, 2010 6:25 PM

As the title asks, what are the most frequently asked questions here, and do you think having a FAQ's section or sticky would help?

There are a few very frequently asked questions that I can think of:

  • How do I/what do I use to thin Squadron putty?
  • What's the best thinning ratio for <insert name> paint?
  • What is/where do I get Future?
  • Why did my flat coat turn white?
  • Can you paint acrylic over enamel/enamel over acrylic?
  • What sort of sandpaper should I use?

I'm sure that there are others, but these ones seem to turn up like clockwork.

I know that having a FAQ section won't stop people from asking these questions, but do you think that having these (and other) Q&A's stickied or grouped together would be helpful?

YEah ive asked a few of those myself. I think they would go down well stickied together. Maybe a forum called FAQ's Read First section. Any question that gets asked more than once a month maybe? gets dumped in there or something.

Hey that would be good, a stickied post in the aircraft forum with the cockpit colour (and their equivalents in the different paint brands) of the major aircraft (cockpit green, RLM somethingorother, etc)

You know that even site that have sticky topics still see the same questions over and over. Why look for something yourself when you can ask the same question that was asked two posts down. You can give them books, but you can't make them read...so you put pretty pictures in it instead! LOL

At one time wasn't there a FAQ or sticky of some sort in the Airbrush section? Maybe I'm mistaken but I'm thinking there was and it didn't really change a thing. So, it isn't there anymore.

PS...Just noticed. 500 posts. hehe What a milestone! Only took 7 years, 8 months and 18 days. Guess I haven't been asking to many unnecessary questions. Wink

Woops, the edit bumped my total...

I think one of the most frequent question is "what is the best <insert model subject here> kit available in <insert scale here>?"

Another one would be "what is the best online hobby shop?"

Though I don't think its asked that often, I think the most frequently responded to question is "how do I get my wife to agree to purchase a $229 kit?" TONS of answers for that question!
