Early Christmas present for a friend.
Posted by Duke Maddog on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 10:10 PM

A couple of Christmases ago, I made the 1/48 scale Monogram F-102 Delta Dagger for my friend Rick who used to be the project development manager for the aircraft.

For those who weren't aware or had forgotten, here's a picture of Rick holding his Delta Dagger that was delivered to him a couple of Christmases ago:

He had also told me that he wanted a model of the F-106 Delta Dart, but it took me another year to complete.

You've seen the pics of the 1/48th scale Monogram F-106 Delta Dart that he also worked on before he retired from the aerospace industry.

Yesterday I was finally able to get the Dart delivered. Here is Rick unveiling his new plane:

I also got him taking a closer look:

After that, I asked for a pic with him standing by both aircraft. Here he is with his wife and the two aircraft:

And last, here is a closeup shot of the two 1/48th scale Monogram aircraft together:

That gift really made his day! He was thrilled beyond measure. He'd been wanting models of those two aircraft for forty years and I was finally able to build and deliver them to him. I'm glad I was able to make at least one person's Christmas extra special.

Nice work, Duke!  Obviously, you're the kind of friend any guy would like to have!  Toast  I'm just now building the same F-102 (but I'm keeping mine).  Whistling   I'm marking it as one that I used to service in my unit.

Thanks Carlos. I usually do but when a friend requests a larger scale, I'm happy to oblige!

Ken, thank you as well. I'd love to see the one you're building. It's great being able to have a model of something you had/worked on/ helped develop.

Great job there Duke!  The models look great but, far more importantly, the joy you brought to your friend was priceless.

It got me to thinking (which I hate to do): When I get up there in the twilight of my years, I hope I have a friend who will build me a model or two when I'm no longer able to do so myself.

Kudos on the good will that you've spread.  There's another gold star in your book of life.  Yes

Great images.  I have one of the Dart models but haven't been able to snag an F102 Dagger yet.  Hard to find I guess.  You did a great job on the builds, I hope he gets many years of enjoyment from them.

Happy Holidays
