The Key Maker

and it cost ALOT too...

When this was discussed earlier in the FSM forum, I happily chimed in saying I would get one of these B-17s and I wouldn't mind paying the cost.  What I SHOULD have added at the end was "...within reason."  I saw (on Sprue Brothers, I think??) that the cost would not exceed something like $230.  Once I saw that, I instantly knew that this model would never grace my shelves.  Maybe it's just a mental thing with me but I can't justify paying a price for a model that starts with a "2" followed by two more digits.

I've paid the $150 price tag for some Collect-Aire kits.  That even seemed too pricey for my blood but at least I could justify it by telling myself that the kits were no available in any scale anywhere else.  While I'd love to have a 1/32 scale B-17, I just can't bring myself to pay $230 for a model airplane.  Once I do that, I know I've gone over to "the bad place".

I see that Monogram is releasing their gem of an F-80, Skyraider and F-5 kits.  At $20 each, I'll just stock up on those instead.  And I'll pick up the Monogram B-17 for a couple of bucks more.

Surprising that the release date isnt until August 2010, given that the molds are obviously done.  This doesnt look like a mock up, looks like a mostly completed kit, apart from the missing guns and a few little bits and pieces.

I would if I could.... a 1/32 B-17 is too much airplane for my meager home (and far too much model for my current skill set).
