So I'm back after 2 1/2 years, now what to build?
Posted by ZzZGuy on Sunday, December 26, 2010 10:26 PM

Due to life issues I stopped model building almost 3 years ago but now I have time, no more moving across the country and lots of bad weather.

My stash survived along with all my paints, a small tool box of what I used to use and a few incomplete (and very very dusty) models.

After using a AB, I only brush paint as I enjoy this more. MM acrylic being my paint of choice due to how well it works with brushing and lack of fumes/ease of cleanup.

To make things interesting I'm going to build what people vote I build from my stash below (I bought it so I like it, except the Jagdpanzer IV). But only if there is a clear winner of more then 4 votes on one model. Due to the time and effort involved no 1/350 warships for now.

I will also buy one more model, should it be a F-22, F-35 or IS3? And what brand/kit?

So I have: (Updated)

Yea, so I found out there was a second stash hidden away.

Tamiya 1/72 P-51B Mustang
Tamiya 1/35 Merkava
Tamiya 1/35 JS-2
Hasegawa 1/71 M1E1 Abrams
Trumpeter 1/350 DE-635 USS England
Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Hood
Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher
Hasegawa 1/72 Crusader Mk.II
Tamiya 1/48 Panzer IV Ausf.J
Tamiya 1/700 Battlecruiser Scharnhorst
Tamiya 1/700 Battlecruiser HMS Hood
Tamiya 1/700 Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen
Tamiya 1/700 Heavy Cruiser Suzuya
Tamiya 1/48 Tiger I
Dragon 1/35 M1A1 AIM
Tamiya 1/48 Citroen Traction 11CV (staff car)
Tamiya 1/48 F-16CJ
Tamiya 1/48 M4 Sherman
Tamiya 1/35 Flakpanzer IV
Dragon 1/35 M4 Super Sherman (Israeli)

Where the heck did all these models come from? I need a list to keep track! I can't imagine the guys who have 200+ kits. All in good condition aside from the odd missing box, tank hull, spur tree and not to mention incomplete models done in horrible ways (eg, said Flakpanzer being a victim of a failed attempt to use "craft" paint). Also found my old attempt at a 1/1088 (iirc) scale Warlock Destroyer from Babylon 5. I may retry this but using better methods (I still have the reference material for the scale of everything).

Also heard of people raving about proper spur tree cutters so I broke down and got a good pair (was using small wire cutters with one flat side, but I ruined the edge by cutting some wires with it >_< )

I'd start with either the 1/48 F16 or the 1/48 P51D.  The reason being that they are both relatively simple and I think it would be better to start simple and repolish your skills before jumping head first into Armor or small scale 1/72 kits.

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

On the Tarmac:  F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.
