U.S.S.JOHN PAUL JONES---REVELL

I know my post won't help you a single bit and I'm sorry about that.  But I just wanted to thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory!  I remember having and loving that model ship as a kid.  For the life of me I can't remember if I got it through the old Revell model building club where they sent you a new kit every so often.

Anyway, I hope someone can help you with the answer.  It would be great to know if the kit is still available or not.  I think mine finally sank under the barrage of firecrackers that my brother and I stuffed into it back when we were 14 or so.  So young and foolish was I in my yoot....

I have that kit in my stash, as well as a Gold Models 1/350 Modern USN ships PE set. The set directions say that you can use that set on that kit (or something to that effect). I did the math when I picked up the kit and it is not quite 1/350, but reasonably close to where the PE stuff will work.

Just wanted to let you know that there are 2 different threads in the ships category regarding the JPJ by Revell. I enjoyed the kits also. I rebuilt an old model my brother built more than 30 years ago. Used 1/350 PE, scratch built some damaged or missing parts, gave it n a new paint job and mounted it in a wooden display case I made for it. I gave it back to him for Christmas last year. He almost cried when he saw it. I purchased an unbuilt kit on e-bay about 6 m,onths ago. Paid around $40 as I recall.

Hi JACK ! Say ,guess what? I was going through my spare parts from long ago and guess what I found ? ALL the deckhouse structural panels in that kit . I now know how that came about . You know about 'What Ifs"don,t you ? well , I bought the thing , probably in a flea market or yard sale and started converting it to a what-if stealth type vessel . I don,t know where the hull and new superstructure went , but , I do have the parts to re-create the JOHN PAUL JONES .It,s still a great kit as those go . I just broke down and ordered some more REVELL BUCKLEYs and ROGER B.TANEY "HAMILTON CLASS" cutters. These will be built this way, ( oh and one" PRISTINE" U.S.S. FORREST SHERMAN kit.) I will build at least one of each O.O.B. and then their twins in full glorious detail , P.E. and all .They are proving as much fun to build now as they were years ago .         tankerbuilder

Just another interesting point. My cousin was a Chief Petty Officer on the Forest Sherman in the mid '60's. Another co-worker was on the Forest Sherman later in the early 70's. They both claimed that the Forest Sherman was haunted. Does GMM have 1:350 ghosts or will I have to scratchbuild one?

OH,JACK-JACK you boo-booed and did a dubble posticate. Hey Guy how,s about we see if we can find us a miniature GHOST HUNTERS crew to check her out ??LOL. LOL. The same has been said of the HORNET and the U.S.S. KIDD. I don,t know really , but , I do know that when I worked for MATSON NAVIGATION on the S.S.LURLINE I would,ve sworn she had one . Many of the engineers complained of unusual coldness and weird hair raising seeming whispers in the PORT shaft alley . I , As chief ENGINEER checked it out because I thought It was so much B.S. from crew that just did not want work in there underway . Oh , well , I didn,t like it down there either . The starboard alley didn,t feel that way. I have almost completed the first of the FORREST SHERMANS with ALL the goodies . I was right  ,SHE,S BEOOTIFUL  !!    I will send pics one day if I ever remember how , gosh , I need to write that down .       tankerbuilder      P.S.
