Academy Parts?-UPDATE!
Posted by jimbot58 on Monday, March 14, 2011 3:24 AM

I recently picked up a couple of Academy kits from Squadron last week, an A-10 and an F-15E (both 1/72 scale) and finally I had a chance to look them over. I discovered that the A-10 has a part missing from one of the sprues, the forward landing gear bay door! I know they are distributed through MRC and wondered as to how they are for replacing missing parts? I have their contact info from their site, and I am going to go over the F-15 carefully before I e-mail them. Just wondered about their track record....

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

They are not free like other companies. I was going thru the process of obtaining a replacement part from them a few months back. They wanted proof of purchase and a small fee ($10 I think) to replace the part I had lost. Fortuantley the carpet monster regurgitated it before I actually paid so the whole transaction was aborted. Their communication is good. I cant vouch for the rest.

I would contact Squadron to see if they can replace the parts.  I had a missing part from an Eduard set a few months back and Squadron replaced it at no charge.  They were pretty quick about getting the part to me also.

I got an Academy Space Shuttle/747 kit as a gift last year. The one fuselage half had a defect where a large chunk was missing right where the cockpit should be.  I called MRC and they said send the UPC seal from the box along with a description of the problem and the part I needed.

Fast forward one year later. I got a box about a month ago from MRC with a part inside. Unfortunately, it was the wrong part.  I saved a copy of the letter I sent them last year so I double check to see if I made the mistake. I asked for the correct part.

I gave up.  It's not worth the aggravation for a $10 kit that really isn't that great to begin with.

I just wondered if others had good or bad luck concerning something like this. I will probably fire off e-mails to both Squadron and MRC and see what happens. Perhaps in a year I'll get a big surprise and receive the wrong part as well.

I have been dealing with Squadron for several years, and have encountered this problem. In my experience, Squadron has been fantastic about replacing missing parts. They have always called me back to tell me that they have found the part & when it was shipped. Usually the part will arrive within 5 business days, and at no cost. If you bought the kit through Squadron, contact them first, they will make it right.

Thank you for that, I'm going to contact Squadron as my attempt to contact MRC has had no response in 4 days. In the world of instant electronic communication, 4 days is a long time.

Interesting update! Today I received 2 e-mails-one from Squadron apologizing and a telling me they will send the part tomorrow. The other was from MRC asking for copy of receipt, UPC from the box and what was missing. The e-mail did say that any other requests for parts other than missing would be 10 dollar shipping charge. I almost feel bad for Squadron as it really wasn't their fault the part was missing, but Kudos to them for great customer service! No need to bother with MRC at this point! Thanks for telling me about Squadrons service!
