British infantry question
Posted by coldwar68 on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 2:15 PM
Is there anybody here who knows about the uniforms of the more modern British infantry? I have a few questions, but I wanted to find out if anybody is an expert here before I typed out all of the questions that I have.

Ok, maybe expert isn't the exact wording that I want to use. How about knowledgable in the area of modern British infantrymen uniforms and equipment. Such as, do they still use the 58 pattern web rig or, if they don't use it when did they stop.

Thanks,
Jerry

I guess there are no experts on this subject ... and I'm certainly not one either; but so as not to leave you hanging, how about checking out some of the books on the Falklands war?
If that time period is not right there is a tv show on "Showtime" cable channel called "Red Cap" ; sort of a British infantry JAG ... if you can get that channel you'll see lots of British infantry.

Good luck,
Bruce

Thanks to both of you for the help. Bruce, do you know any good titles? I have a book on the Falklands War but it does not have any real good pics in it. No real descriptions of the uniforms and equipment either. The book is a pretty good read. I will do an Amazon search to see what I can find too, but if you know of any I would appreciate it. Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry:
Try "The Falklands War 1982" by Martin Middlebrook. This is an update of his original work and includes new information that was not available when he wrote the original.
There are three or four decent pictures of infantry, and you can get a good idea of their kit.

Bruce
