Hi Mallard,

Future is used as a low-cost alternative to commercial (modelling) clear gloss coats. There are several potential applications. Some people use it as an overall clear coat to protect the underlying paint before applying washes/filters. It's also used as a gloss coat for applying decals, as it helps prevent/reduce the incidence of "silvering" or trapping of air, which often occurs if decals are applied to a "flat" surface.

Unfortunately we don't have a direct equivalent of Future here in Australia. There are a couple of local alternatives which are similar, but not the same.

These are Johnson's "Pledge One Go", which is similar, but I believe it contains cleaning agents, and Pascoe's "Long Life". You should be able to find one or both of these in the floor cleaning products section of your local Coles or Woolworths supermarkets. To be honest, I'm not fond of either of these. I primarily use acrylic paints and both of these will attack acrylic paints to some extent, the "long Life" moreso than the Pledge.

Mallard,

Cant help with what it is called down under...someone will help I am sure. What is it used for??? Well I use it to coat my canopies right from the start. Gives them a nice glass look and protects them from glue crazing as well as making a good base in case I flub something up. It can be stripped with windex.

I also us it to thin Vallejo paints, and as a wetting compund for other arcrlics. I use it as a gloss coat both before and after decals. I mix it with Tamyia flat for a flat coat.

Bottom line is that it works good for me for several things. Look here for more info.

G'Day Folks

As a new modeller I am trying to absorb as much info as possible , the use of future floor polish on models has me beat, what is it's purpose when building a model?                      I cannot find this product in Australia.

Does anyone know if there is an equivalent product in Oz?

Mallard
