How did this happen/Is this normal?

Do'nt worry it is just fine. I have builds that I started 20 years ago still going.

Old geezer that I am, I can only focus on one build at a time.  When that's finished, I move on to something else completely different, like switching from aircraft to armor, or sci-fi, or a figure.  I keep rotating subjects to keep my interest fresh.

once i get done painting the cockpit and painting the insides of the fuselage i'll open up abother kit and start working on it also. i have four kits that need to be painted. i ran out of thinner and had to order some more. 

It happened to me too...I had not touched a Model in 30yrs and then on day at a yard sale last summer I found a DML Scud kit for $1. and that was it.  100+ kits a Big tackle box with tools and supply's to work upstairs when the Wife yells at me for being down in the basement for too long.

BUT I am having FUN!!!!

I remember the good old days of when I was a kid. If anything went beyond 1-2 days for a build, something was wrong.

Today, I have about 4 WIP's. They are in various states. Need camo on one, need new decals for another, need tracks built for the final. I have a Zero that's been worked off and an on for about 3-4 years. Most of the cockpit is done, just need to weather it and install in the fuselage so I can paint the exterior.

It's hard in today's world to finish builds with so much going on, i.e. work and children. Comes with the territory.

When I was working on my P-51 collection, I had 10 going at one time.  I said I will not be going that again.  I am limiting myself to three or four at a time.

Currently have the following all in different stages

• 1/350 USS Enterprise CVN-65
• 1/48 B-17D
• 1/48 A-20G
• 1/48 C-172 dio in final stages

Oh wait, there some I started and put aside, but not working on, do they count?

I'm the type that gets frustrated when something goes wrong and I'll stop and start somethign new.  Or I'll Get somethign new and have to open it and start playing around. 

...................No , that aint normal ,go to the doctor now ! If you wait to long you could look like this guy ....................

OMG, six kits started and not finished, now you're going to start another?!!!  Rookie.  Call me when you have 20 or 30.

I have found , much to my dismay, since I finished being an on the go R.V.traveler ,  I now have over twenty started . Oh , my gosh , will I ever get them built ?  Clients have to come first , but , I will work these in as relaxers to the regular schedule , there , that,ll work .  catchya----tankerbuilder

Well I'm doing it right now too, but that's no guarantee of it being normal!

1. 1/48 P-38 nightfighter - need to do my final work around the landing gear add the last of the canopy pieces, DROP T E FLAPS!!
2. 1/72 Zero - needs landing gear & canopy attached, final matte coat
3. 1/72 Ki61 Tony - needs landing gear attached
4. Ho-229 scratchbuild - need to work on canopy/cockpit area, engine pods built, finish blending wing setions etc. etc. (I'm thinking I'm 1/2 done)
5. 1/72 Fouga Magister - a little Airfix kit, I decided to pose it in-flight to avoid dealing with the funny little landing gear assembly. In-flight= "need to paint the pilots", which has lengthened the project!
6. 1/24 BMW 330i - Needs paint & final assembly.
7. 1/72 Sea Harrier - All I've done with this one so far is open the box, fondle the parts & glue the seat together - does that count?

So I guess it's normal for me - I'll get to a point where I need to wait for better airbrush conditions, or for everyone else to be done with the "assembly area" (aka the kitchen table...) or for my eyes to not be bugged out from a long day of working on a computer screen.

For years i used to have a number of kits on the go at once, and i used to have the same problem. I found that kits would often get damaged while left on the side. Now, i make it a rule that i don't start a kit until i have everything i need. And i only work on one kit at a time, not starting on the new one until the previous one is finished..

Due to over commitment to GB's i do have a few kits sitting on the shelf that i still need to do Dio's for. But as a rule i will finish a kit as part of a dio before starting on the next one.

As Forrest Gump would say, "It happens".   I keep telling myself I'm gonna finish the current build before a next one, but right now I got a  B-17, P-51, P-47 all in various stages of completion with all their respective parts strewn all about (I'm still wondering how I havnt lost anything yet).  Heck I think I even got a PBY cockpit hiding somewhere on the bench too

Only 6? Man, I got around 24 WIPs laying around in here...  Crackin' open a 1/48 B-29 in about 30 minutes, too...

Yes, and no...

Yeah, it's normal. Nothing to worry about until you have multiple copies OF THE SAME KIT under construction at the same time.

If it's any consolation I got back into model building 3 or 4 years ago and have over a dozen in progress and none finished and that's just styrene models, that doesn't include garage kits (mainly figures) in various stages of assembly.

Unfortunately I like to modify so that slows up the work, then there is research and waiting for parts and materials to arrive. (and spending to much time on the computer)

Sounds completely normal to me, though, i've never gone beyond 3 WIPs at any one time.

Given your started in June/July, what does your stash look like?  I found that was what got out of control very very rapidly...and still not under control...

Good luck man, since starting a two kit build, learned the hard way to juggle one ball at a time!

I don't have a work surface large enough to have more than 1 WIP at a time.  I'm envious!!

Normal for many, I'm sure. I'm more of a one at time type, but am slowly losing control.
