Is IMEX gone?
Posted by mfsob on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 7:38 AM
I have never bought one of their models but love their display cases because they are relatively cheap and nicely fit the 1/700 ships I usually build. However, when I clicked on http://www.imex-model.com/ yesterday I got the dreaded "can't display the webpage" message. Has anyone heard anything about whether they are still in business and just got sloppy with their website? Hope so.

Those display cases are made in China and are available from other suppliers. Simply cruise your local craft stores to see what they are selling. Many are packaged differently for different items to be displayed.

Ever consider cheap fish tanks flipped upside down mounted to a base?  I know someone who finds the type that are not glass but acrylic who does taxidermy, mostly birds. He makes a wooden base, routers a recessed grove which accepts the lip of the tank top. Depending on the subject and customers desires, he'll seal the base to the tank using a good construction adhesive so the object inside never gets dusty or damaged from being opened.

These tanks come in all sizes, just shop around the pet stores for the best deals...check with the owners to see if you can order several at a time, this often helps them get a price break for quantity.

Regarding IMEX, I'll ask around. It might just be their server is down or they forgot to renew their domain. They have a large catalog, scale modeling is just a fraction of their product lines.

It seems that they may be doing web page work . When I was in my L.H.S. not to long ago I saw their modern freight ships .(all but 0ne ) and the shop owner said he could get more .       tankerbuilder
