B-29 Decals?

Same applies for FIFI to make your own decals.  Again a B-29 with simple markings.  The FIFI font can be found on almost any computer and with a little editing you can give the letters the correct tilt, spacing etc.

He's looking for "FIFI". There are plenty of good photos to start from.

The Enola Gay markings are very simple compaired to the nose art on many bombers.  It is all lettering.

With a simple graphics editing program like MS paint, publisher, word or Adobes offerings or something free online, you can create your own lettering and markings and print on clear decal paper.  

There is plenty of reference photos of the Enola Gay and it is at the Smithsonian so you should be able to create all the markings you need.  

The font used to spell out Enola Gay is pretty standard.  You most likely already have it on your computer.  Just find some good reference pics and go into your fonts and find one that matches.  

You can get stars and bars decals for WW2 aircraft all day long on ebay in multiple sizes and scales.  With the fonts, simple artwork some generic stars and bars decals, you could even print up much of the stenciling located all over the aircraft you could print your own decals in no time.

God, I hope not. He got wiped out in the floods in Ames some years back, had a series of injury issues and a fairly questionable career path.

JJ, you'd be better off doing a websearch for Fifi and generating your own file.  Also, you might want to ask in the Aircraft forum for better visibility.

Check the Korean War-era B-29s... They were probably the most visually "satisfying" versions of the Superfort...  THe had more in the way of markings, since the "U.S. Air Force" and red stripe was added to the national insignia, plus you have the black night camouflage that was added after they switcehed over to night missions.

Nose art was pretty risque' at first, but the base commander's wife at Kadena AB, Japan was quite the prude, and lots of the bombers were re-painted in order to stop "offending" her ....  There's a book called "Planes, Names, and Dames" Vol II that covers quite a number of these birds, including pictures of teh "offending" nose-art BEFORE they were edited, as well as after...  "Cream of the Crop" was probably the easiest one to cnsor, since the crew, in disgust, just added a black bar over the noughty bits, while "Never Hoppen" was repainted several times to meet her expectations...

Of course, there were others that didn't feel her wrath, that were just as colorful, and sometimes quite funny... "Command Decision" was one, where two of Snow White's dwarves are using the DDG some suspected the Brass at 20th AF HQused to make decisions ("DDG=Digital Decision Generator, i.e. Flipping a coin), etc.

It USED to be "Our L'l A$$" until it was changed with the editing out of the "O", and the addition of panties on the "girl".

"Southern Comfort" was another one that fell to the base "censor".. Originally, she was nude, and the cloud was a bed...

Should you go this route, I'd be happy to whip up the nose-art for ya, as one of my B-29s is going to be modeled as "FiFi" and I've already got the FiFi name decal scaled and printable..

I appreciate the feedback. And redraider, you are absolutely correct! I've browsed around online and $18 is about the cheapest I've seen for decals for this thing.

I've actually been posting in the aircraft forum on this problem as well, but I'll summarize here...

The more I look at the "Silverplate" bombers, the more bland they look. On the other hand, I've seen some great bare metal 29s with impressive markings. Just struggling to decide which choice to make without having the names or nose art upsetting some overly sensitive school patron. (Or hearing the constant snickering from my male students over a name like "Humpin' Honey")

While I'm disappointed to lose the A-bomb in the bay, I've already got a diorama idea for those when I get around to it. I've also got a few extra 1:48 scale bombs from a previous build to cram into a bay, so I can still arm this baby to the teeth.

1/48 B-29 decals are gonna be hard to come by and probly wont be the cheapest either.  Decals for Enola Gay are gonna be pretty to find too.  One ebay right now there is a sheet for "The Great Artiste" which was one of the silverplate B-29s modified to be able to carry the atomic bomb.  6 planes were modified but only Enola Gay and Bockscar would go on missions.  The sheet is listed at $18 but that looks like the only choice for ya right now.  Hope this helps!
