I've had good luck on Craigslist. I think a car swap meet or model show would be a great way to sell them.

Is there a site that true collector might go to rather than Ebay?

www.Oldmodelkits.com

But watch these guys... They WILL low-ball you...  Check their prices, since they deal more in the collector-range, rather than the builder-range...

Here's their "What we do" page;;

Cadet Chuck

Unbuilt Pocher kits are worth $500 at least.  I do not trust E-Bay.  I like the idea of setting up at a major model show, or perhaps you could try contacting some of those guys who advertise in FSM saying they buy large collections, but beware, I don't think they pay big prices.  Or contact local IPMS chapters and see what you might arrange with them, as far as putting out a list or an exhibition for the members.

Great suggestion by Cadet Chuck! Yes

Here's the links you can try...  I do see one event coming up in AZ this November.

For events listing... http://www.ipmsusa.org/MemberServices/EventsCalendar/EventCalendarList.asp

For chapters listing... http://www.ipmsusa.org/  Click on 'Chapters' on the left tab. I see five chapters in AZ alone.

Good luck!

What a good idea!  I am in Tucson, AZ.  Do you have a link for one those websites?

Because you have hundreds of models, I would set up an exhibition table at next local model show if I was you.  That way you don't have to deal with the headache of packing and shipping.  They will go fast if prices are real good.

Where are you located?  There are websites listing local model shows.

Best way to sell/ find buyers?

I have an older friend who has a large collection of car models and he's asked me to help him sell them.  Though I've sold many things online, I have no experience in selling or any experience with model kits.  While he seems to have a feel for the values of the models, we need some ideas of how to go about selling them.  The obvious thing is to put them on Ebay, and we will do this if needed.  The problem is he has hundreds of models and I think we'd rather find someone who is interested in buying chunks of his collection, if not all.  Can anyone point us in the right direction?  Is it better to sell items individually or as a group of models? Is there a site that true collector might go to rather than Ebay?  Here are some of the items just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with.  These are just from a list he gave me:

Mint Models

3 Danbury Mint (1953 Buick Skylark), 4 Franklin Mint (1948 Chrysler Town and Country)

Pocher Kits

1/8th 1932 Rolls Royce Phantom II Sedanca Coupe (opened, but new condition)

Rio Car Models

21 items (61 Hispano Suiza 1932)

Lots of 1/24th models, Brumm, Box, Burago, Eligor, Gama Mini, etc...

Lots of quality Die Cast Car Models (AMR Jaguar XJR-5)

These are just sampling of what he has.  Any ideas?
