My favorite aircraft tank?  That would have to be the A-10!

...there's not much better than an F-111 performing a classic Dump n' Burn at what seems like mere feet above your head (Aussies would agree here lol.) ...

Ditto Agreed!

I'm an 80's child, Top Gun and the F-14 was the first thing I remember which captured my fascination with planes and the military, so, I'm going to have to go with that as my favourite.  Especially the brightly coloured squadron markings from the '70s.

Aircraft - a toss-up between the D.VII and the Pfalz D.IIIa.

Tank - any variant of the Sherman.

Hans, don't sell the Black Widow short, there were four 50s in that turret.

Yeah, ya caught me.. But then, there were those with two, those with four, and those with none, so I split the difference..

And a Mossie will become a loose formation of toothpicks with a single burst from a Widow (which was fully capable of all BFM/ACM, mind you, except a deliberate spin), and was a quite capable dogfighter.   The Widow was a much more survivable aircraft to be in also, especially if you're doing ground attack and interdiction, which was what the majority of Widows in the ETO wound up doing... In the tropics, the Mossie fell apart sitting on the hardstand, since the glue used to hold its plywood together could not handle the climate and it de-laminated... So much so, it was withdrawn from service there for the most part...  As for speed of the Mossie, the fast one (400+ mph) was the unarmed bomber, not the nightfighter...

At any rate, stooging around in the dark at minimum cruise-setting is what nightfighters do, and both the Widow and the Mossie did exactly that.    However, there are only two aircraft a fighter pilot loves, that's the one he's flying and the one he wants to fly next...

Hey, that is the La Gleize King Tiger, I have been there a few times. That tank is very impressive, very intmidating! However, my favorite is the T-34, the everyman's tank that won the war at the eastfront.

As for aircraft, the Spitfire.

For birds, probably the FW-190 A3-8.

For armor, the Panther G Late w/chin mantlet.

Doogs I haven't heard that one, FWIW. American Night Fighter had to start with the completely misbegotten Douglas P-70 variant of the A-20. They suffered something like a 30% loss rate in training before even going overseas. In the ETO they were initially equipped with a mixture of Beaufighters and Mosquitos, the Beaus because they weren't of interest any longer to the British as bombers or fighters.

I can't think of cases I've read where a Squadron really had much say about what they were issued. But the germ of a NF is loiter time. Eight hours in the air, fully armed, is a given. Mosquitos did not have that kind of duration.

In any case, the P-61 could outfly quite a few fighters. It could turn inside a P-47 and had lighter wing loading, although a Jug could certain do most everything else better.

If I had to pick a fighter from world war 2, I would say the P-47. Ugly ***, but big powerful and manueverable. I am a fan of Republic.

I don't have a favorite aircraft, there's too many to choose from.

Tank, the T-34. Probably because I don't know squat about tanks, but it is a super concept. I've wargamed with them, and if you have enough of them they'll get the Jerries every time.

Mossie, schmossie..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/HansvonHammer/Aircraft%20Profiles/P-61color.jpg

Two .50s and four 20mm cannons... Buh-bye, Skeeter..

Compared with 4x 20mm cannons and 4x .303s?

I never bothered to dig into whether it was true, but I came across an account a few months back that, when the P-61 was making its way into service, US nightfighter crews wanted Mossie NFs. But the Brits wanted them too. So they had a fly-off, and the RAF chaps, even though they felt the Widow was a slow, wallowing pig next to the Mosquito, gushed about it, asked if they could request it, etc. The Americans quickly claimed the Widow for their own, the Brits went back to flying Mossies, and everybody shot lots of lead projectiles at Germans. The end.

Don't have a favorite tank...

But I got something close, having been the Gun-Chief on this particular piece... May I present my track, M109A3 "Lucky" Charlie 13, Chemical Dependency...

(Before you ask, the .50's down inside getting cleaned.. We make it a crew thing, so the howitzer crew is inside... But you can see my leg (at least I think's it's mine.. I always sat at the back, rather than inside, between fire-missions. So it's probably me... The FAASV crew is busy doing their .50 too, just outside the shot.)

I know mine would lie with the Spitfire, the roar of her beautiful 12 cylinders as she completes a victory roll

Nice, but not as nice as a Mossie at full pelt with her 24 pots!

Hey, back again with another question! Favourite aircraft? I know mine would lie with the Spitfire, the roar of her beautiful 12 cylinders as she completes a victory roll Heart But there's a few others I love; the P-40 has really taken my fancy as a beautiful looking, and rugged aircraft. Also the Beaufighter, just wow, very cool. I love planes in general, but these three are some sweet ass rides! But jets like the F-4 and F-111 are up there, there's not much better than an F-111 performing a classic Dump n' Burn at what seems like mere feet above your head (Aussies would agree here lol.) But what takes your guys' fancy?
