Conversion for twin Mustang?

theres onl 1 conversion to my knowledge:
lots of plastic sheet, 2 p51H's, and a hell of al ot of filler

as for p51: if you want 1/48, go with hasegawa. if you want detail, go for HiPm (not recommended)

for 1/72, hasegawa

I agree with Greggars. I tried it some years ago in 1/48th and finally gave up. In case nobody mentioned it above. revell/monogram offered it in 1/72 and hobbycraft in 1/48. I have 2 of the revell kits (day & night versions), but never could justify the $38 price tag on the hobbycraft kit at the local hobbyshop.

The Fuselage that F-82 carried is Version "P-51H",
you need to get two fuselage from "H" version.
There´s a vacuum form version, I dont know who
makes it , but theres one.
The tail from the twin version is little bit longer on the fin,
in the real version is about 20" taller.
If you like to make a twin mustang with the available version,
you would not get something real, Wings, wheels, blades, spinner and copkit
are diffrent. Only same thing is the tail wheel.

The F-82 airframes were actually fairly significantly different than a P-51D or P-51K airframe. Many of the shapes were very different, so grafting a centre wing and tail section to two P-51 models might be fun, but you it won't end up with an F-82 that's very accurate.
I can't vouch for the accuracy of the 1/48 or 1/72 scale kits, but they're probably a much better starting point than two P-51 kits.

The AF Museum site indicates that out of 273 P/F-82s built, 25 of them had the Packard V-1650 installed. All the rest had the later version of the Allison V-1710 installed (which was definatly not the V-1710 that the P-38/P-39/P-40 used)

I cannot wait for someone to do a decent P/F-82 in 1/48 scale! I've heard that the Hobbycraft kit is absolutely attrocious. I would find it hard to believe that there would be a conversion kit out there for it (I assume it would be an attempt to mate two P-51s together). This would require a tremendous amount of work since the Twin Mustang fuselages were actually a bit bigger than your standard Mustang. Also the outter wing sections were of a different profile. So basically you'd have to replace the fuselages, outter wing sections, modify the inner wing fillet, landing gear, nose profile (since some of the Twin Mustangs used Allison engines), and exhaust ports. So basically you're ending up with an entirely new kit altogether! Like I said, I can't wait for someone to come out with a nice 1/48 scale kit of the Twin Mustang!

hi there, i tried to do this in 1/72 and it didn't work. the two airframes are very different. Monogram did do this in kit form in 1/72. (i found out after trying to do it) i bought this kit and built it and it is quite a good kit, still have it someplace but it got bust when we moved house.
