I have had great deals, many times over......90% of my stash at more than 50% off!!!

I did buy a re-sealed (all parts guaranteed in box) Pro-Modeller HE-111, that the vendor obviously didn't check out before re-sealing it!  When I openned the box (at home), I found a list of "Movie" titles, including "Bimbo Bowlers from Buffalo", "Debbie Does Dallas" and more of the like. There was also a magazine and a hand written adult "story". Very poorly written, I was not turned on in the least bit!

HA,,,  good one ,,                                 fermis,, trade up, trade up!

I had a funny experience that I recall...   going back to the late 80's, I asked a vendor if he had any offbeat figures...   he does this look around thing, like a guy selling stolen watches or something, and pulls out a box from under the table....  all nudie / suggestive metal figures........      Some funny stuff!

Enjoy the ride!

There's a guy, I believe from the New York area. He's been around for ages, lots of armor and some off beat stuff. Always charges less than what's on the box. That's not the funny part. it's how he's literraly managed to remain upright and taking nourishmnet. His wife helps him at the shows and has since at least the early 90's when I first started seeing him at regional shows. He talks to her worse than you'd talk to a mangy mutt you'd never seen before that was trying to gnaw off your ankle bone. I'm amazed she hasn't made him cream of death angel mushroom soup yet!

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I actually see that a lot...seems a lot of these guys bring their better halves who wait on them hand and foot...speaking of which, I've seen more and more wives and girlfriends attending shows with their guys, which is cool---cause it increases the pool that I have to hit on...

LOL....I don't think anyone can to be honest.

The first shows I ever attended were last year (San Antonio and Houston) when I first got back into the hobby. I came away with some great kits at really cheap prices. My entire stash is from those shows.

Unfortunately at our last show (Houston IPMS) we had a less than stellar vendor area. I think due to the economy and lack of LHS here. We plan on having a better showing next year.

ha, I dont think I can top fermis with that one....but after very first vendors experience I needed a wheelbarrow to carry all of my kits! LOL!

This one fellow had been left with a large stash of aircraft kits thanks to his father and brother. He had no need for them and was just handing them out pretty much like candy! All 1/72 scale kits were only a buck, and the larger kits ran form $5 for a ww2 fighter, with the larger stuff never passing $10!!!! IF you grabbed 3 large kits, he'd only charge you $15!!

That day I ended up getting 20 kits (14 in 1/72, 5 in 1/48, and one 1/32) and an aftermarket detail set, all for less than $50.  Propeller

Now that I'm here, where am I??

I ran the IPMS Seattle Spring show for a number of years and was the vendor guy. Being on the "other side" was kinda interesting; vendors jockeying for the best perceived location, sticky fingers, etc.You could always tell when a vendor started a fire-sale towards the end of the day because the crowd in front would thicken.

Favorite story is similar to Agent G's but was fueled by the raffle and not vendors. The year the Italeri 1/35th PT boat came out we had one in the raffle. At that time modelers got one ticket for each model they entered and you could buy more.... two brothers and their dad came in with models to enter and bought some extras. The kids did pretty well in raffle even before the PT boat came on the block, and they wound up winning that too. I have a photo of them walking out at the end of the day carrying the PT boat box like a stretcher with their other winnings piled high... two HUGE grins on their faces.

Speaking of raffles!

A couple years ago, my raffle # came up (they taped the other ticket to a model, you'd get the model that matched your #). Anyway, the raffle table was empty, 'cept for a Revellogram P-51D. I've built at least a dozen of them, I wasn't excited! The guy reaches behind the 51, and pulls out a 1/35 Legend "Tanker Girl", nudie fig. He asked if I would take it (even though my # matched the 51), so that if the next winner was a kid, there wouldn't be an issue. She now accompanies my Hase, 1/32 P-51.

I'd post a pic, but it wouldn't fly here.

Tracy, I was at the Seattle show last year and was blown away by it. I was like a kid in a candy store. Tons of vendors and tons of models to be judged. Very fulfilling show. Yes

I was impressed with the vendor turn-out at the Fort Worth show / contest a couple weekends ago.  There were some really good deals.  Some of you may have seen my earlier post regarding the $5 kits I picked up.  That guy was getting rid of his stock and was selling everything for $5 a piece.

Of course, there was the opposite extreme too.  There was one guy selling some sort of model, I don't evem remember what it was, for over $500.  $500 at a model show?  Really?  Who's got that kind of cash to put down on a single model?  Or maybe I'm just a cheap S.O.B.??

Yeah I heard about the $5 kit sale from my fellow IPMS Houston members that went to the show. Wish I had gone.

I wanna say the guy was from Austin; but I'm not sure.

Maybe next year we can plan an FSM forums Meet 'n' Greet and put some faces with the names we see here!  We're already planning on possibly adding a seminar or two.  The problem with those is that we only have so many rooms and this year every single room we had was packed with vendors.  It's a tough problem to have!  :)

That would be cool. Although our show here in Houston is at the end of April. You should come to ours. We (IPMS Houston) need to figure out how to get more vendors at the show. It was kinda sad this year.

When I lived in Beaumont I came to a couple IPMS-Houston shows.  You guys put on a pertty good show.  My "season" was IPMS-S.W.A.M.P in January over in Lake Charles LA and your club's show in April.

Anybody else noticing a trend with Fermis scores at shows? I want to go to the show with Fermis maybe then I can get something a little more intersting than A/C or Armor that might inspire me to build fast too.Big Smile
