I have to stand with my lovable lizard friend and abstain as well.

It works for me if you're going with five categories but it works better for me if you have a few more.

I see your point Smeagal, it just seems to me you're over-thinking things.

I see no problem with 'Scifi-Fantasy' but again, 90% of fantasy stuff goes into the figure category because well they are the ones that are best to judge and critique  and help eachother out because its all the same techniques.  Someone who builds gundam kits or star trek ships wont have a clue how to accurately paint a flesh tone (gross generalization) or the best way to get a metalic look on armor without using metalic paints.

If you look at it that way its best to keep it that way, with fantasy and mythology going into figures because they work best off of eachother.  They use the same techniques and what not.  Sci-fi has it's own category because it doesn't really fit into the rest there is so much odd stuff we use and do you would have to ask car guys for help with gundam finishes, armor guys for weathering, plane guys for MG and burns around engines, figures for the figures that go with it.  Its such a varied area that it has to have it's own subject but fantasy is, as I said 100 times, 99.999% figures.

Well, what's wrong with calling it SF/Fantasy?  Seems to cover both- Mythical works but I'm just more used to the term SF/Fantasy myself.

And no label is going to be perfect- I mean jeeps go in the Armour category even though they're not armoured...

I think it is Fantasy that I will ever get half way through my stash, or is it Science fiction that I think that by buying that new airbrush my skills will increase?

First 'it makes good sense' to you and one or two others.  Everyone that builds scifi on this forums that has weighed into this topic has told you it does not make good sense at all.

Another good point has been brought up as well.  As I said fantasy is sword and sorcery and mythology mostly has to do with grecko roman mythos and at times norse. 

Now ALL of that 100% absolutely, positively ALL of it is pre-history to medieval, meaning there is nothing more advanced then a axle and a wheel which means that 99.9% of it ALREADY fits into the category of 'Figures'

If you made a category called 'Fantasy' what you would effectively do is split the 'Figure' category into ' 1600-present and prehistory to Renaissance.  While there are a lot of historically accurate medieval and crusades figures the majority of figures done by people, especially on THIS forum, are WWII - Modern 1/72nd to 1/35th scale figures.

Last thing Ill put here now is just a restatement of what I said earlier.  Fantasy kits are 99.999% Figures thats all, they go in the figure category and they always have.  Its called Scifi for a reason, contests call it scifi, stores call it scifi.  If you want fantasy stuff you either look in Figures or in Scifi because there are few of them and when you find them they are just that, figures.

It would be like taking another overarching subject... this is even hard to do, lets try automobiles, and saying... nah, lets take a small little niche model type, lets do drag racers, and lets call the category drag racers.

"Sci-Fi and Fantasy" would work as a single, stand-alone category, IMNSHO... Frodo, Robbie the Robot, Spock, Predator, Godzilla,and Skywalker pretty much all get along... I've certainly never seen a conflict at the local bookstore-section were ALL that stuff is located..

Meanwhile, Jupiter II is quite nicely tucked into formation with Enterprise, K'Tanga, Executor, Seaview, and Yamato II at the other end of the table, and the "F-19 Stealth" & "MiG-37 Ferret" can duke it out in the middle...  Maybe somewhere around the location of the "Dropship"...

It's possible to oversimplify as well as overthink these kinds of things.

I still don't see what is wrong with the high overview classifications Scorpionmikey came up with.  It makes good sense.  Its not like we are asking for a new classification for competitions or shows!

If one had to classify all books in one of two categories, "fiction" and "non-fiction" would make quite a bit of sense.

And which books fit where would probably start some awesome wars.

This thread is getting all kinds of hilarious. 

How about the following:

1. Walks - Moves across solid terrain by action of articulating limbs of unspecified number
2. Rolls - Utilizes energy transferred from an axle to a wheel to exert frictive forces upon solid terrain to propel the subject forward or backward.
3. Flies - Self-propulsion through a gaseous environment, such as air or space
4. Floats - Buoyancy is critical to survival
5. Everything else - mainly for snakes
