A VERY OLD MODEL
Posted by tankerbuilder on Thursday, September 29, 2011 3:15 PM

How many of you out there have seen or remember the model of the 36 foot express cruiser (CHRIS CRAFT) that LINDBERG has done for years .Now , that is one that seems to have escaped re-release for more than one time . Do you realise that model , if you find one ,  is almost as old as I am ? No I won,t say ,  except to state I am over half a century old by a little more than seventeen years . I built that little gem more than once , but , for some reason I would pass on it ,many times ,  and go for 1/350 warships instead . I found one on E-BAYand it was MIB but the bidding got to rich for my budget . The day after, I found another (LABELED used .) and bought it . It was used alright ,BUT, very salvageable . I am about to install many new parts I made and she will look like brand new ! I was so glad to see this little gem . You know the old saw about going back in time ? Well , this boat has transported me back to years full of joy and being part of a very close knit family . The fact is, I have spoken to others, and they have said the same thing when they tell me about a model they,ve built . I still would like to find one MIB that I could build new . Oh , in passing , the BIG sportfishing boat that LINDBERG brought out years back was among those that AURORA never brought to production .They just barely brought out  their "WHEELER CRUISER "  and that one is one I would really like to see again .That and this little CHRIS CRAFT look so nice when built right . And yes , LINDBERG gives all the parts in it to make it a bathtub operational TOY/MODEL ?          tankerbuilder

I recall seeing the kit box in hobby shops, but did not buy due to cost.

Lindberg issued many unusual civil vehicles but I must presume they just don't have a following among the younger kit buyers.

When I was a kid (in the 40's) one of my uncles owned a wooden Chris Craft sport speed boat.  It had a big inboard Chrysler auto engine and I remember the great fun we had tooling around a big inland lake in Wisconsin.  It was a real head-turner.  I have no idea of its name or model number, does this sound like the model you are talking about?  Must be worth a fortune today, if any of them still survive.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Tankerbuilder:

Props on hunting down the kit you were searching for. Make it shine!

(Then show us the pics.)

Pictures would be great. I think I had one cast in white plastic that I never finished. IIRC the shaft seals on those never were watertight.

YOU could also get it with the old MARINE products engine .Mine (the real one was thirty years newer and it had twin JIMMIE 671 units with wet exhaust .) Now that was a hummm - dinger - especiallywhen I  blew the wet exhausts !! I could be heard half mile away .        Tankerbuilder     PS there was one in the CALIFORNIA DELTA -fully restored and that CHRYSLER hummed like a kitten !
