AMPS Centex: Austin Show- I won some stuffs!
Posted by SteveM on Saturday, October 22, 2011 7:31 PM

Hey guys,

I'm very excited to have brought home some awards from today's AMPS Centex Show. I don't ever really enter stuff in these competitions; I usually go to just wipe out my bank account and fill my stash. I brought a couple of pieces with me today, totally on a lark.

My dio "Go For Broke: Tribute to the 100 / 442 RCT" won a Bronze in Dioramas, then turned around and won Best Diorama. Freaked me out:

I was knocked out to even have won a thing with this next piece. I painted this 120mm Patton about 4, maybe 5 years ago. Again, it was a lark, but it picked up a Bronze:

Also won 4 door prize armor kits and a set of Tamiya 1/48 US Infantry. Never done 1/48 before.

Pretty great way to spend a beautiful autumn Saturday afternoon. What could possibly make this day any better? Pizza, you say? Netlix?? Well aww shux.

Alright then.

Congrats Steve! I would've liked to make it out today, but way too much stuff to do packing up the house.

In other-ish news, did you happen to see Fifi the B-29 flying around today? Had no idea she was in town, and this morning the kids started getting all dramatic in the back yard. Went to go sort things out, heard this deep rumble that very definitely wasn't the neighbor's mowers. Looked up to to see Fifi flying low overhead - I'd guess maybe 2,000 feet. Absolutely made my morning. I've never seen a B-29 outside of a museum before.

Aww, thanks guys!

Doogs- yes, well... at least I heard her. Others at the show saw her and were talkin about it. Pretty cool.

Congrats on the medals.  The quality of work displayed was quite high.  Overall though, the show was a bit disappointing.  There were some very nice entrants there but it seemed to be deja vu.  There was a lot of the same old kits we see at every show.  Again, great work, but nothing really remarkable.

The vendor area was a complete bust.  There were 6(?) vendors there including the Andrea rep but she didn't bring any paint.  There were no bargains except for Hill Country Hobbies discounts but I buy my stuff in his store.  Most amazing was a complete lack of after market goodies.

The Austin AMPS chapter did a bang up job of executing the show.  They are to be commended.  Anyone else have reports on the winners?
