Olde Depot Hobbies

Has anyone ever dealt with mail-order retailer Olde Depot Hobbies at http://depothobbies.com/?

I placed an order with them on October 13 and only received a confirmation email.  I emailed them on October 24 requesting tracking information but never received a response.  I subsequently called and left a voice message which also went unanswered.  Needless to say, I haven't received my order yet.  Have I been scammed?

He's a one man show who also does local shows. Al probably knows him. I'm fairly sure he was listed as being at AMPS East show in September. This time of year is busy in the Massachussetts area in regards to local shows. He was probably at GraniteCon in Nashua, NH around the time of your order. He'll probably be at BayCon in a couple of weeks too.

I'd give him a call. Depending on his inventory, there's a chance what your ordered from his site could have even been sold at a show and he'd have to reorder it.

I've read about issues with slow response regarding him in the past on other websites. I checked out his website from your link and his "news" link lists shows that are 5 years old. Red flags should be waving if you're ordering from a website that hasn't been updated in half a decade.

It never hurts to do a little research on an online vendor before placing an order. Better safe than sorry as the old saying goes.

PM sent to the original poster.

Rob, Olde Depot was not at Granitecon for the first time in many years.

That's surprising, he was a fixture at all the local shows for my years there. I think he even normally had the same spot in each show.

As I think back, he wasn't at the Milford CT show, either. He's  tentatively set to come to our event in March. I'll be going to Baycon this weekend so I'll see if he's there. If not, I think things don't bode well for him.

Al & Rob,

Thanks for your replies and the information about Olde Depot.  I am a boomer returning to the hobby after 40 years and was seduced by his (alleged) extensive inventory, including an AM Battle of Midway SBD-2.  My phone calls and emails have remained unanswered so I may call my credit card company and have them cancel the transaction.  His online reputation seems well-deserved.

Yes, I have the same problem with Olde Depot Hobbies.  I placed and order on Aug 23, 2011 for the amount of $176.51 and NEVER recieved any confirmation or goods from them.  I tried to email them several times and got no response.  Then I tried to call their number on their web page and got "...number is no longer connected" !!  To this date, I still have not received anything from them !!

I DO NOT recommend anyone to do business with Olde Depot Hobbies.  If you Google "problems with Olde Depot Hobbies" you will find a trail of people with the same problem !   Best to stay clear of this site and fair warning to all...DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING from them or you will be sorry like I am now !!

You should do this BEFORE ordering pretty much anything, not afterwards.

I spoke with them again at Baycon this weekend. Now the story is the compuer has a virus that shuts down the internet in a couple minutes, it can't accomodate newer virus protection and they're waiting to buy a new computer. Make of this as you will.

Thanks for the update.  If this was an episode of "Mythbusters," the explanation would be categorized as "plausible," but barely.
