More on Squadron/Black Friday
Posted by Flatlander on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 5:31 PM

I too took advantage of Squadron's sale (and hope the wife doesn't find out).  When I was done I had like $89 worth of stuff, so I added another item to the cart to bring it over $100 to get the free shipping they USED to offer. USED TO is the operative phrase.  My bad.  Turns out they charged me shipping.

Maybe adding shipping was just a Black Friday thing, but be sure you check on your next order.  Heads up!  Don't add to your cart for free shipping.

Yeah, ya gotta have $150 now, to get the free shipping. They do say, now, that they ship in 1-4 days.......beats the week or two it used to take. I still order from them, just not anything that I'm in a real hurry to get! I'd probably order a lot more from other companies, if they mailed out a catalogue like Squadron does.

Uhhh, don't know what Squadron sale you were participating in, but the one I saw had ALL FREE shipping on Black Friday, no matter how much you bought.

By they way, they upped their free shipping on non-Black Friday orders to a $150.00 minimum.

Figures...they have been slipping in the customer service area for a number of years...their search engine also sux...

That was the problem, I guess.  Out of town on Friday, I took advantage of their pre-Black Friday sale.

Anyway, I always figured in their free shipping at $100 as a discount that brought them in line with other places.  I have gotten so used to this discount over the years that I forgot to check for sure.

I just wanted to warn other unalert shoppers that the $100 no longer applies.

As an aside, Squadron can certainly charge what they like, but I almost never order $150 at a time, so I'll probably be looking elsewhere for lower prices.  I'm sure they have enough accountants to tell them where to place the price break to make up from shipping what they lose in missed business.

What's wrong with their search engine??  I just stare at it until drops of blood form on my forehead.... Wink

Seriously though, their search engine might be a big PITA, but I have never had a problem with their customer service.

I agree that it is a bummer that they bumped their free shipping up to $150, and I'll also probably not order from them as often.

You can't look at it that way. I rarely order that much from them, either. But, when an order goes in, I'm not the only one on it. The trick is to get a couple modeling buddies and all of you pick and choose what you want - no one has to buy $150, you just need three guys who want to spend 50 bucks. Much more doable that way.
