FSM "inside" jokes?
Posted by JailCop on Saturday, December 3, 2011 7:19 PM

Ok so I've gotten curious enough to post this:  Would someone care to explain a few things that appear to be "inside" jokes?  Such as "229"?  and the golden chicken/spine badge?  The iron cross with crossed 229's?  Any others?

the 229 thread was a joke thread where the original poster got all offended and left, spawning jokes at his expense. The in-jokes between a number of forum members spawned an additional number of other in-jokes, that eventually spread throughout various threads in the forum. A few people got angered over what they deemed "nonsense" and the participants of the in-jokes defended themselves and the fight escalated from there. The arguments got so out of hand that Aaron Skinner deleted the entire Odds and Ends forum, as well as any threads pertaining to the subject. A number of members were banned in the process, but I dont know who. It has become a touchy subject since.

The chicken came from members teasing each other abut being "hen-pecked" by their wives.

Glad I'm not the only one who was wondering...

I hadn't even noticed that the odds and ends section is gone. Seems a little extreme to me.

The discussion leading up to it got very heated. While the answer was a bit extreme, it had the intended effect. Sort of a TacNuke for bad forum behavior...

I hadn't even noticed that the odds and ends section is gone.

Some members  posted very, very  frequently on the Odds and Ends Forum-  mostly in discussions about topics not related in any way to model building.

Those Odds and Ends forum discussions also seem to have been the primary reason some visited the FSM website. The forum's elimination  appears to have  been enough for some to cease posting on a regular basis,

Unfortunately, management had to spend an inordinate amount of time refereeing that forum on an hour by hour basis, and that no doubt contributed greatly to the decision to eliminate the Odds and Ends forum.

The sad part is the original poster created the thread as a bit of a joke, but it snowballed out of control and the thread went viral and ran him off the forums in embarassment.

The REALLY sad thing is it appeared that he didn't get his own joke...

The arguments got so out of hand that Aaron Skinner deleted the entire Odds and Ends forum, as well as any threads pertaining to the subject. A number of members were banned in the process, but I dont know who. It has become a touchy subject since.

And "Teflon Manny" escaped the axe?

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

One can only assume, and like I said, I dont know who nor the specific reasoning behind it.

I know i haven't been around that much lately, but i didn't realise i had missed that much. I hadn't noticed the odds and ends had gone, let alone that the 229 thread was missing.

The last time i looked, it was still good natured. Not sure how anyone could get upset over it after all this time. So, is it aloud to say who got banned.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
